"Hey, fattie! Quit it!"

I was quite taken aback a moment ago.

I was packing up some snickerdoodles for my husband to bring to the office. One of them broke, so I popped a bite into my mouth. Just as I did so, I heard my daughter (age 19) shout, "Hey, fattie! Quit it!"

Pause.

I was shocked. When I looked up, I realized she was talking to the cat. He's a bit - well, plump - and she's been scolding me for feeding him too much. Her admonishment was directed at him as he dove into his feed bowl once again.

Yesterday he was talking about a new friend and he said, "He is Chinese, but I don't care." I said, "Of course you don't care! The only important thing is what kind of person he is on the inside!" Henry said, "Yeah. It doesn't matter what you look like. Look at you... you're wearing those mukluk slippers and I still love you." He said this with the cutest smile, and gave me a hug.

Kids are so darned cute. And who would love us without them?
