any Sleepy LaBeef fans here?
when I lived up in Massachusetts years ago, there was a major truck stop just off an exit ramp on Route 495 called Alan's . . . strange as it may seem, every Saturday night at midnight they had live country music that was broadcast nationwide on some Nashville station or other . . . a frequent player at Alan's was Sleepy LaBeef, variously termed the Bull, the Road Warrior, and the Human Jukebox -- a rockabilly pioneer from Arkansas who just plain kicked ass . . . on one of his trips north, his motor home broke down, and he ended up settling into the same town I was living in . . . he often gave free concerts in the town park, and quickly became a favorite throughout New England . . . check out his home page, and give a listen if you're into rockabilly and associated genres . . . a real original who's still making great music in his 60s . . .

2. Saw him (c. 1989) at the Twist & Shout in Bethesda, MD...
..aka the Bethesda American Legion. (Mary Chapin Carpenter left out that part.)

I recall a big crowd, and I recall his marathon medleys, and I recall dancing ALL night.

Nothin' to beat it.

6. nope
I grew up in Groveland, went to high school in West Newbury - but I lived in Haverhil when I was a barfly. I moved to NH in 1984.

We may have met - we may even have slept together....:wow:

Amesbury has changed a lot. I have a friend who lives there. That whole area is fast becoming yuppie Boston bedroom communities.

8. whew!
A lot of my life was done in blackouts back then. It's a relief to find someone I didn't sleep with. ;-)

So - gay at Alan's truck stop???? That must have been bizarre.
