Macintosh help please....I have a DVD stuck in my
Mac. I have a 12 inch powerbook with a slot loading DVD player. I put in a DVD and not only did the system not recognize it (no icon of the DVD showed up on the desktop).

I have tried the following to get it to eject:
-holding down the fn button and the eject button
-holding down the eject button
-restarting the Mac.

I am now on my way to the Apple store but if anyone on DU could help me it would make me all bouncy!!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Thank you!

1. No idea, I'm afraid.
I have the same computer, I've have been staring at it, trying to figure out if there's a little hole like the floppy drives used to have, where you could stick a paper clip in it and pop out a stuck disc. Apparently not...

2. You've tried everything I would have done.

Good luck at the Apple Store.
If you have AppleCare, you're covered.

They will fix it at no additional charge.

Also, we have a Mac group here on DU.

There are a lot of good Mac people here who know way
more than I do.

3. I don't have a powerbook, but when a DVD gets stuck in my G5,
I can eject it even when the computer hadn't recognized it by restarting and then holding the eject button through the startup. Since the computer doesn't recognize any disc, holding the eject button trips the eject mechanism during restart, whether there's a disc in there or not.

4. Restart while pressing the trackpad button...
Edited on Wed Dec-06-06 07:59 PM by Omphaloskepsis
Continue to hold it down during the boot sequence.

or.. from docs.info.apple.com (this is a new one for me)

1. Restart the computer. If necessary, use the reset/interrupt button.
2. Immediately after the system startup tone, press and hold the "X" key. Continue to hold the key until the computer is finished starting up.
3. Open iTunes or DVD Player (both located in the Applications folder).
4. Click the Eject button in either of these applications.

5. If that doesn't work, it may be something with the drive-
It might be time to take a ride to the apple store! (Unfortunately, something similar happened with mine... Faulty wiring- for me)- I've seen another complaining person at the store with a CD/DVD frame that is slightly smooshed and thus no action can occur- the drive is being effectively taken offline by the configuration of the smooshieness.

6. I took it to the apple store and what the tech there
did was push the trackpad button AFTER the startup sound is made. I was pushing the trackpad button at the same time I selected restart.

Thanks to all who gave me suggestions!

8. don't the powerbooks have paper clip ejection holes?
on all the older model Macs they had a little hole beside the drives that served as an emergency eject by sticking a paper clip into it.

9. They did away with them on the newer mac laptops.

My new(ish) Macbook Pro doesn't have one either.

Getting stuck CDs out is a common problem on the apple.com support forums, so I'll bet the boys and girls in Cupertino are regretting that little design decision.

11. Leave it to Mac to even take opening the CD door away from the user.
God forbid a user should have any capacity to control what the computer does or how it does it.

Clearly, the users are too stupid to be trusted with something as important as deciding whether they want the CD tray to be open or closed.
