How much does your writing style vary from the way you speak?
Edited on Wed Dec-06-06 06:38 PM by Droopy
I had the good fortune of meeting the almighty Hypnotoad in my last trucking tour of the country. Let me tell you, he is much more organized in person ;). I think I'm pretty much the same- bad grammar, cuss words, and all.

4. I think I am much more
disorganized in real life, I tend to be somewhat scattered when I talk (my mind tends to wander a lot - which isn't to say I'm not a good listener). I really need a back and delete button in real life. :silly:

I am often more talkative than my writing style seems to indicate.

Also inflection. I wouldn't be mostly lowercase in real life. :P

9. Wow, how do you get to know anyone?
;), just kidding. I used to be like that to. Now I'll talk to anyone who has the poor fortune of standing within 15 feet of me. My quietness was actually caused by some serious problems that I was having at the time. Now that all that's cleared up I tend to be more outgoing.

24. It's not that I'm overly quiet.
It's more like I tend to be ignored by my coworkers. They are all friends outside of work, they're young, etc. I have a different life and they don't understand it.

I say it a lot when I'm under stress and it tends to release that pressure. It's good to see you Peggy. I've been down in southern California several times recently. It's too bad I couldn't look you up when I was there. BTW, I say fuck a lot when I'm driving around SoCal.

but for the most part, I think it's quite different....it's more of a matter of the way I wish I spoke. When I write tongue-in-cheek I think it's closer, but even that's wishful thinking.

39. My speaking and writing are exactly the same.
I am prolix, obscure, wordy, redundant, dull, condescending, snobbish, and unclear.

Because of my hideous facial deformity however that causes paralysis in my facial muscles, including those on which my speech depends, I mumble so badly that people seldom hear what I am saying, which is a good thing, I guess. Regrettably I can type though.

42. It depends on who I'm talking with/to and what I am/we are talking about.
Some people will not connect with you if you speak *above* their level of general discourse, so with certain people, I often simplify my speech. I tend to invoke alot of different intonations when I'm speaking with friends- often for empahasis or humor- and that probably doesn't translate well, in written form. I can be articulate and formal when I need to be. I'm a pretty animated speaker, in general. I speak with alot more sarcasm irl, but it doesn't translate well, universally speaking, on a message board/in text.

We did an experiment in a class I took many years ago. We wrote something. Then we spoke about something, which was recorded and transcribed, word for word including all the "ands" "uhs" "likes" whatever.

My speaking was pretty close to my writing--a few "uhs" but not many. The rest of the class?
