I didn't know how to figure out percents until now.
Whoa. Cause i wanted this shirt on shopintuition.com (I'm trying to spend some b-day money I got) that is $65. But in the newest issue of Seventeen there's a coupon that says 20% off all items. So I multiplied 65*20% and got 13. I was like :wtf: this shirt can't be $13.

And just now I found out that the 13 meant "$13 minus 65", so the shirt would be $52.

2. Here are two easy ways to do that in future...
1. It's easy to figure out 10%, so you can just double it for a 20% offer.

Example: 10% of 65.00 is 6.50; 6.50 doubled equals 13.00 off. Likewise, that can be halved - 5% would be 3.25. If the discount were 15%, you'd just add the 10% and 5% to get a total of 9.75 off.

2. If you have a calculator handy, multiply the original number by .80 to get the sale price of an item that is 20% off. That means in your case, 65.00 x .80 = 52.00

(Multiply by .70 for a 30% off item; .85 for a 15% off item, and so forth.)

5. Yes,
because $65*20%=amount that constitutes 20% of the price. You want the price, which is calculated as
65 *(100-20)% or
65*80%

Ain't math grand?
