Were you scared when you first posted on DU?
I was terrified. I had lurked for a few weeks and finally got the courage to post. I thought I would be attacked, but instead I was ignored. I was scared until my first flame and then I realized it wasn't so bad. How about you?

7. I was nervous at first
I'd never taken part in anything political before at all online before. I'm very confident in my sense of politics, but I just wasn't sure if I'd be all that good at articulating it. I still don't think I'm all that hot, because I see so many here who do it so much better. Before DU, I stuck mainly to parenting boards that I'm no longer a part of.

8. No, I was mad because they having a get together in Austin and they
wouldn't let me know the location because I was new and couldn't get any info because I might have been a spy or a mole or some other kind of penetrating animal. I'm still kind of griped about it.

The first reply to my first post referred to me by my full name. I couldn't figure out how they knew who I was, and started looking for the black helicopters. I soon discovered I had posted my personal info in my profiles, and fixed it, but for a few minutes I was a basket case.

I'm sorry that happened. I know when the freepers invade that decisions are made quick and not as well thought out as other times. Literally, mods tombstone 20 folks a night during an invasion. I know that legitimate posters get caught in that. I'm glad you are here.

19. Came as a breeze (kinda) ;)
I had been hanging on many mailing lists and chat rooms for may years, so I was kinda used to talking to people I didn't know. I think I was more intimidated with posting on DU, than anything. And that is only because, I thought my thoughts wouldn't be heard because of not being an American citizen. But thankfully, I was wrong. :)

22. Yes, I was anxious. I'd lurked for quite awhile, then took the plunge...
My mom was quite ill at the time, in the hospital (she died Feb. 15th), and posting on DU really helped my mental health status during that time.

30. Not at all
It was like coming home, especially after having spent a lot of time in a newsgroup that was your standard liberal/conservative bash-fest. My experience here has been very positive. I'm sure one of these days I'll post something that pisses someone off, but that comes with the territory.

I don't know why I didn't come here sooner; I've been reading the conservative idiot list every week for a year at least but never thought to visit the forums.

31. No............
at that time there weren't that many of us here. I felt like I'd finally found a home. Until that time I'd posted mostly on local chat boards and was overwhelmed by the number of dittoheads around. Then I found a link to DU (from The Unknown News website, don't know if they're even around anymore). I've had several self imposed "time outs" after things got too uncivil, but I always come back.

33. I was too pissed to be scared
After lurking in GD for a month I unleashed a few years of anger in my first post - called Cheney "a hemorrhoid on the ass of mankind", some choice words for PNAC. The first response was a suggestion on how to pack for Gitmo, and I knew I'd found a home.

Come and gitme, you 'rhoids.

37. Not really
I lurked for a very short time and it took me awhile before I really got going with my postings. I've been here a little over a year and the first six months, I only had about 100 posts, but after that, I really got going. Most of my post tend to be in the lounge, but when I need to say something about something in LBN or GD, I don't hesitate either.

38. A little, but not very much
It was in the weeks right after 9-11. My first few posts were received well enough, as I was extremely concerned along with everybody else about the PATRIOT act etc.

Then I made a post in a thread about hunting, defending it as legitimate even though I myself am quite turned off by it. I got immediately flamed big-time by one particular poster who misinterpreted what I said. That was a bit startling because I hadn't thought my post was inflammatory at all.

Fortunately several other DUers jumped in to defend me (with less than 10 posts under my belt), and that made me feel real comfortable with this place. There was no turning back after that.

:-)

Though, I did lurk awhile before posting….kinda get the feel of the atmosphere, so to say……posted a lot on CNN before they shut down…went to the NY Times and LA Times for a while, then to Nando Times where I had a great time with the Jesus freaks that were there…then they shut down.

Finally heard about DU when I was over at Atlantic Monthly….haven’t been over at AM in a long time….

Kinda found a home….
