Rant #4 - why the @#$@ can't people R.S.V.P.??!?
Is it really that hard to pick up your phone and call me, and say either "we got the invite, yes, we'll be there" or "we got the invite, sorry, we can't make it."

I have somewhere between 15 and 40 people coming to my house tomorrow.

*sigh*

1. Set places for those who responded.

If anyone shows up who did NOT respond, you say at the door, "Wow - I'm so sorry, but I've only made food and set places for those who told me they would be here. I didn't hear from you, so I could only assume you were not coming. Maybe next time!"

2. Went through this
with my son's wedding. We included stamped RSVP cards with the invitations. We'd hear though my son that so-and-so 'might' be able to come. Would like to bring a friend, too. The day we had to turn in the final head count for dinners I still wasn't sure how many people would show up. Needless to say it gave me a nasty migraine.

How hard can it be to say yes or no.

3. Someone had a great solution they posted a week or so ago to this:
The people getting married allowed whoever came to attend the wedding (as is typical). But at the reception place, they had a guy standing at the door to the place, and he had a list of everyone who had responded that they would attend, with the charge that he was to deny entry to anyone not on the list.

I think it's an elegant solution to a maddening problem of people having no courtesy.

4. Stamped RSVP cards became common because people were too rude to reply unaided.
Honestly, RSVP cards were considered gauche not that long ago because they presumed that the invitees didn't have the manners to reply on their own. Now it's standard and STILL some people don't bother to RSVP.

6. We just went through it too for my son's wedding.
We had problems with rsvps too...from those who rsvp'd yes and didn't show to those who called at the last minute wanting to add 2 and 3 people to their rsvp. It made the last few days very stressful.

I had one relative call me several times a day, attempting to get me to increase the numbers 3 days before the wedding. She just didn't understand how things work with caterers and seating arrangements.

7. I'd call them and ask if they're planning on coming.
I did that with the people who didn't rsvp for my son's wedding.

8. Did you see my rant?
I am disgusted at how people treat the hostess these days.
