I'm watching Ugly Betty for first time - I have a question

There's a Salma Hayek-like character who lives in a house with some extended family.

And there's Ugly Betty and her office environs.


But I have seen nothing that links these two groups - who the hell are the Salma Hayek-like family, and what do they have to do with the story?

1. I think you mean Betty's older sister, her son and their dad

Betty lives with them all in Queens.

I haven't seen tonight's episode yet, but I watch the show.

so I figured it out.

I had no idea that she would be part of that family.
