16. Not exactly...
Although, as a Red Sox fan, I hate saying anything positive about Georgie, the fact remains that he was a Democratic contributor when he got "shaken down" for a big contribution to CREEP in 1972. He was so bothered by the extortion-like tactics of the Nixon "fundraisers" that he immediately called longtime friend Tip O'Neill, telling him that the behavior of Nixon's campaign was enough to justify impeachment, and leading O'Neill to quietly begin to set in motion the procedures for an impeachment resolution, months before the Watergate scandal broke. (This information comes from Jimmy Breslin's "How The Good Guys Finally Won," published in the mid-70s.)

4. Sure they are
they're all super rich. It never bothers me when a rich person is Republican, they should be. My ass gets chapped when I see regular working class people supporting these buffoons and their policies.

11. Well, yes, you have your stock certificate...
But that doesn't convey true ownership. The Green Bay Packers are the sole property of the citizens of Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Our only communist professional sports team!

18. That deal has yet to be approved by MLB...
...until that happens (and I've read that they might not approve it due to financial concerns), the Dodgers remain Murdoch's property...and I remain unable to root for my original home-town team.

24. I'll be so glad when that deal goes through
(IF it goes through). I'll have my team back, and my favorite living Dodger can return to the fold.

For those who are unaware, Sandy Koufax left the organization during Spring Training (where he was participating as a pitching coach) after one of Murdoch's newspapers printed a story defaming Koufax. He stated at the time that he would no longer have any relationship with any organization run by Murdoch, but would gladly return upon the sale of the Dodgers.

25. Jazz (owned by LHMiller)- 2 degrees from the shrub
Edited on Wed Dec-31-03 02:59 PM by aQuArius
Miller is a right-wing mormon, who also owns (what seems to be) half of the State of Utah... is great friends with the previous governor (Leavitt)- who is now on a special "environmental" board for the shrub.

29. Rooneys (Steelers) are not very right wing
"The Rooney family makes the list, but not for their direct donations to candidates. Dan Rooney and his son, Art, have given $30,000 to the North Side Good Government Committee, their own federally qualified PAC from which money is distributed to local, state and federal candidates."

I can't seem to track down who the PAC gives money to, but the Rooneys themselves don't wear their politics on their sleeves so even if they are righties, they aren't obnoxious about it.

I'm a new DU user but have a question. Who cares if the owners are Repubs or not. Money doesn't show political affiliation does it?
