WINTER STORM WARNING !!!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!!
Edited on Wed Nov-29-06 05:45 AM by Lady Freedom

I am looking down the barrel of this!!!

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM THIS EVENING TO MIDNIGHT CST THURSDAY NIGHT...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SPRINGFIELD HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM THIS EVENING TO MIDNIGHT CST THURSDAY NIGHT. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET ARE EXPECTED LATE TONIGHT INTO THURSDAY MORNING ACROSS SOUTHEAST KANSAS AND WESTERN MISSOURI. GROUND TEMPERATURES REMAIN WARM FROM RECENT WARM TEMPERATURES... SO ICE ACCUMULATIONS ON THE GROUND WILL BE SLOWER TO OCCUR. HOWEVER ELEVATED SURFACES...SUCH AS POWER LINES...TREE BRANCHES AND BRIDGES WILL BE SUSCEPTIBLE TO SIGNIFICANT ICE ACCUMULATIONS. TOTAL ICE ACCUMULATIONS AROUND ONE QUARTER OF AN INCH ARE EXPECTED. THIS WILL LIKELY RESULT IN DOWNED POWER LINES AND POWER OUTAGES.

THE FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET WILL TURN COMPLETELY TO SNOW MID MORNING THURSDAY WITH TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 5 TO 7 INCHES EXPECTED. SNOW WILL TAPER OFF BY FRIDAY MORNING.

STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS GUSTING TO 35 MPH WILL COMBINE WITH THE FREEZING RAIN AND SNOW TO MAKE DRIVING HAZARDOUS.

PEOPLE PLANNING TRAVEL THIS LATE THIS EVENING AND OVERNIGHT SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. IF TRAVEL IS NECESSARY... MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CAR IS WINTERIZED AND IN GOOD WORKING ORDER.

12. Wow...in that second picture you can actually see old man winter creeping up
Fortunately NJ is near the ocean so it doesn't get as cold as it does in the midwest but by Saturday it will barely make it out of the 40's here

4. It will make the LONG Indian Summer weather here go away on Friday
we in Ohio expect a more than 30 degree temperature drop.

It was effing 60 degrees here at 0500 hours for gawds sake. Been near 70 degrees daily here for more than a week (about 10 days so far, then add today and tomorrow)...and then we get BLAMMO on Friday...with measured wind chills and shit ass cold on the weekend days with the dreaded WIND.

It SUCKS to go from 66 degrees to 33 degrees in a few hours...which will be Friday's weather for us.

I saw all that purple on the weather map this AM for you guys out in Missouri, et al. Shivered in misery with you and for you.

5. Make sure you have the following items - NOW
A means to pump out your cellar if the power goes out - you can buy an auxiliary sump pump that runs off a car battery for about $120.

A battery powered lantern from the sporting goods store - get the ones with LED lights - they run forever on one set of batteries.

Some means of cooking if you have an electric stove.

If you're on a well, some drinking water.

7. Good lord!
It was warmer in Lincoln yesterday than it was here in Los Angeles. Obviously, that's not the case today!

I always dreaded those Winter Storm Warnings. Here's hoping it's not as bad as it looks...or at least that you get a snow day out of it!

9. The radar shows snow
but we're getting freezing rain, I'd rather have the snow, my wife has to drive home from work this afternoon, ice scares the crap out of me I can handle her driving in snow but there's no control for this stuff.
If the power does go down here at least we'll stay warm, we have a gas wall furnace that doesn't depend on electricity, and I have a camp stove for cooking, so we're in pretty good shape.
Except for that damn ice.

15. The ice warning for Warrensburg started at noon today.
Supposedly Pleasant Hill expected us and Cass to get nailed before the rest of ya'll since they called us first.

I'll let you know if it's really nasty. After the ice storm the snow storm will start. Nothing like an ice storm in a college town on a Wednesday night! (Wednesday is THE night to go to the bars here.)

11. As long as it is not like the ice storm several years ago
Here in Oklahoma we went without power for 12 days. All the neighbors rented motel rooms. Having dogs, horses, etc. it was impossible for us to leave. Generator ran the blower on our fireplace and kept the fridge cold. The best lesson we learned was that blow-up beds are cold without the down comforter under you!:dunce:

ice storm.

No power for two weeks and I had an 18 month old at home.
