Job interviews suck. Getting turned down for a job you don't even want sucks more.
WTF does "You have great skills and talent but we decided to go with someone more suited to our environment" mean.

OK, job two. Probably more suitable for me, but requires more commitment, like 40 hours a week and being nice. Hmmmmm.

Job three: Managing an 80-ft sailboat that caters to the rich and famous. Guy who owns it is a busy busy man and cannot get back to us NOW!!!!! when I need to know.

I need to win the lottery.

1. yeah, I have never figured out why....
....if the work ethic is so admired by Americans, why do employers make you feel so small and unworthy when you apply for work?

4. Exactly.
I would hire me in a FLASH. Even I'm smart enough to make that decision. Only proves you would have regretted working with idiots not smart enough to hire you.

3. Please get job three.
I can help with some captain type stuff if you need it. I can also install a neat mp3 type deal that we can use to blast away all kinds of Dylan, Green Day, etc. stuff when we are off duty.

Nice gig for sure.

11. Well, the owner is a lawyer from CA and exremely busy
so this is on a back burner for him. Wish the hell he'd make a decision so I can move on. Had my second interview and it looks like a decent place. Damn, I hate this.

7. you were probably deemed overqualified
they hired someone less likely to quickly advance beyond the position and they wanted to maintain their tenure so they don't have to retrain and to save on HR processing costs.

16. I do a a lot of of interviewing candidates
in my position at my job. What employers want is individuals who obviously have the qualifications, but there's much more to it than that. It's really, really, really important that the candidate they choose will fit in with the climate of the company. Someone who will get along with the type of employees that are there. Someone who is high energy if that's what the position calls for or laid back if thats what the position calls for. I tell people that if they are a good fit (and believe me, I can tell almost right away), we'll go the next step. I notice body language, if the person is upbeat or not, how they dress for the interveiw, how they complete the application, what their resume looks like, etc. Hope that helps and good luck!

22. Thank you for that.
The position would have required that I work in a small office with my boss and another guy. I think they were looking for a dude so they could spit and swear. (Can't wait to see what that statement does around here.)

But you are absolutely right. I used to do some interviewing and that was the first thing I considered. I just assume when it's about ME, everyone would jump at the chance to have me in their midst. I really wanted the job because it would have given me experience in Corel, but I can always find another way to get that.

All in all, I just hate job hunting. I feel like a beggar.

18. "more suited to our environment"
that is so weird. What is it, like, on a volcano or something?

I don't know why they just aren't straight-forward about stuff. Oh, because they can get sued for whatever it is they are discriminating against you about.

24. Well, you could become a nurse.
They'll take you if you've got a pulse. If you have any experience at all: sign on bonus, relocation reimbursement, etc.

Of course, the job will probably suck - but the interviews are SWEET! ;-)

25. Are you overqualified?
I love to hire "overqualified" individuals. Their intelligence and perseverance raises the quality of work among everyone else who reports to me. I have heard the argument that they may not stick around a long time, but my experience tells me otherwise.
