Poll question: How many times am I gonna get called bad names tomorrow?
I work in retail.

Tomorrow is Black Friday.

We have our Black Friday ad in every newspaper in America.

In said Black Friday ad, we are offering a $99 multipurpose ladder--our version of the "Little Giant"--for $59. I have sixty of them at the ready.

Last year, I had eight of them because some Dumb Ass at Store Support Center Atlanta decided to lay out the Black Friday ad without telling the stores what was in it. The fucking advertising department also neglected to send these ads to the stores as is their normal practice; we found out what was in it the same way you did--by opening the Thanksgiving Day newspaper. I managed to sell through all eight ladders in one minute, and then I spent the rest of the day being called dirty names because I didn't have any $59 ladders to sell them. People were coming in at two in the afternoon chewing my ass because I didn't have a ladder for them. I got called a cocksucker five times, a motherfucker more times than I can count, two people promised to get me fired because I wouldn't sell them a ladder (I sent them straight to our retired-sergeant-major manager, who has a...well, let's call it UNIQUE...way of dealing with people like that...), and one guy even offered to sue the store for a million dollars for false advertising. Let us say that he is NOT a million dollars richer at this holiday season.

Considering that I currently have enough ladders to get me all the way to 6:05AM, how many times will I be called a motherfucker tomorrow?

1. There should be a special day for people who work in retail.
"Homicide Abstention Day" or "Cannibals had the Right Idea Day"

And you should be able to be as horrible as possible to everyone and get presents for it.

:hi:

11. "Scream Obscenities at the Likes of Ken Lay and Jack Abramoff Day."
Have rich, greedy, convicted sleazebags of all ilk dispersed throughout the country and for a small charitable donation, allow people to scream at THEM.

Yes, I did my time in retail, God help me.

2. Maybe you should post your own price list

" -Each utterance of the word "motherfucker" will result in a $500 surcharge on your bill.
-The surcharge for "cocksucker" is $100 and a swift kick in the ass. "

3. Does anyone actually choose to work in retail?
I mean, in college, are they thinking, "god, I love the thought of thousands of people crammed into one store, lined up at the register, and Returns is so exciting. Get me a degree in this."

8. I'm surprised they don't HAVE a degree in it...
they have one in everything else.

Many, many, many years ago--too many to even think about--a gentleman named Bert Russell wrote a book of loggers' tales. He called it "Calked Boots." (Calked boots have little nails sticking out the bottom of them. All loggers wear them as it's the only way to keep from falling off a wet log.) In it the loggers were highly derisive of "college boys" and anyone who was educated. Today...you can get an associates degree in logging. I have no idea why I thought of that.

5. I wish you well tomorrow!
I used to work in retail when I was younger and hated Black Friday (but I din't think it was called that then.) I was always so embarrassed and ashamed for the people who would rush through our doors when we opened.

Get thru tomorrow and have a lovely evening planned to pamper yourself when it's all over. :hi:

6. I just got through my big week (alive, thank goodness)
I work retail but in grocery so we have a slightly different shopping pattern. And since I manage a wine and liquor department, it's all about Thanksgiving. Did you know that Thanksgiving is the biggest wine holiday of the year? True and my store is in a BIG wine drinking town in California.

I was so tired last night, I started nodding off sitting up on the sofa at about 7. Worked from 4 am to 1 pm today and I have the next 2 days off!!!!

Then of course, I have to gear up for Christmas (lots of spirits, wine and champagne - lots of Christmas parties, private and corporate so I'll have many multi-case orders) and New Years (champagne). Then comes Valentine's Day (more champagne) and then the second biggest wine holiday of the year - Easter.

The interesting thing about selling booze is that every holiday is a booze holiday. Give people an extra day off and they drink. Father's Day? Scotch. Mother's Day? Champagne. Memorial Day? Beer.

I feel your pain, bud. Here's to you. :toast:

9. Just because you didn't have a ladder for them, they acted like Hannity?

13. How did it go? I was an "0" operator when I was 19.
I spent every major holiday apologizing to long distance callers because they couldn't get through.

Omigod, people will do or say anything. Let there be no doubt about that.

Frustrated piranha are more friendly.
