&^%$#!!! another ibook battery bites the dust
I love my ibook, I really do, but I hate it that every year the battery goes bad and I have to spend another $140 to replace it. Anyone know of a cheap source for batteries?

1. possible battery sources
I just read this recently - haven't looked at the sites, but s/he suggests a couple places for cheaper iPod batteries - maybe they have iBook batteries too?

Q: Is it true that the iPod’s battery cannot be replaced?

A: At first, Apple Computer did not have a specific repair program for iPods with ailing power cells that had passed out of the
company’s one-year warranty period. But the company now has a mail-in battery replacement service for $99. Details are at
www.info. apple.com/support/applecare_ products/service/ipod_ service.html.

The company also sells a version of its AppleCare Protection Plan service package especially for the iPod ($59), which extends the
warranty and support to two years. More information is at www.apple. com/support/products/applecareipod.html.

If you are a do-it-yourselfer with an out-of-warranty iPod, you can buy a replacement battery. Opening the iPod’s case can be
challenging, but most batteries include instructions. Batteries are available at Laptops for Less ($49; www.ipod battery.com) and
PDASmart ($59; www.pdasmart.com/ ipodpartscenter.htm).

3. Here's a kludgey external solution:
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Product_Id=148969 It's $70, and runs off AA penlite cells.

Myself, I'm going out of my gourd from all these damn ultra-compact and non-replaceable batteries, with such temperamental and piss-poor performances. I have a Sony T665 and an NEC P300, and I reall love both devices. But I hardly ever leave the apartment without external battery "solutions" for both, in my shoulder bag.

4. I have an old Zenith 386...Not paying $170 for a battery...
So I have it hooked up to a 12V 7AH gell-cell. I get those from our UPS maintenance program (I run my Ham Radios and bicycle headlights off of the pull-outs, too)

Doesn't look all that chic, but the battery sits in the valise on the floor, anyway...
