help me, help me..my freeper friend called me an 'anti-American'
Edited on Mon Dec-29-03 01:57 AM by jonoboy
because I won't agree that the invasion of Iraq is a positive thing...that the US is beating the terrorists and selflessly saving the world from WMD.. that because he has corporate subsidised health benefits anyone else who thinks there should be socialised medicine is a scrounger and the hospitals would just be clogged up with people 'wanting attention'..big business tax cuts are going to create jobs and if any go to India..'whats the problem ?"..people can always get another job somewere else..and on and on it went with every platitude, lie, misconception and bit of baloney you have ever heard.
When I pointed out some of my scources like Veterans for Peace or Veterans for Commonsense etc etc..he said 'they are real traitors and should be kicked out of the country'

I fled his apartment and said I never want to see or talk to him again.
I called him an 'ignorant ****** .etc etc
..I feel ashamed yet angry like I never have before..what is about these freepers that make me want to hate them so much?
I believe George Bush IS the anti-Christ put on earth to cause people to be at each other's throats,to bring an end to the USA and cause WW3.

4. Bush is not the anti-christ.
Edited on Mon Dec-29-03 01:49 AM by RandomKoolzip
How do I know? You'd think that the devil would be a better public speaker, wouldn't you? And, come on, the Devil has an English accent; everybody knows that.

Ummmmm......Seriously? You might want to kinda sorta edit your post to erase the "ignorant DELETED DELETED" comment and the remark about the antichrist. Remember, we've got trolls like Andy Sullivan and David wHoreo'wits lurking here, then broadcasting the more outlandish posts on DU to the outside world...Methinks the above comments will make us look bad. I agree with the substance of your post, I'm not trying to flame you...this is advice meant in the spirit of cooperation.

But, hey....it's your choice....

Then again, this is coming from a guy who called John Edwards "The Cock-Hammer" earlier today in a joke post...

6. yes you are correct but it was written in anger
besides , when a person will not directly answer one point you put and I mean NOT ONE FACT that cannot be disputed unfortunately it was the ONLY thing he could not dispute..I mean minus the bastard ignorant part of course.
Honestly i have never known people to be so rigid in thought in my entire life.
What is it about Bush that has frozen people's minds in this fixed mode were not one single thing they say can be challenged ??

8. Unfortunately, facts don't matter
Whenever a winger says "No one cares about WMDs" I'll post links to a half-dozen Bush speeches where he sounds like he cares about WMDs quite a bit. Doesn't phase them at all.

5. buy the guy a brown shirt....
....and say sayonara.

Seriously. Think back to the days of the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Families were torn apart. Friends became enemies. Brothers killed brothers.

You have to follow your beliefs, and those who refuse to respect your right as an American to say what you think about your government must simply be left behind.

Your "friend" sounds as if he's speaking from fear. If you reallly want to remain on speaking terms, perhaps you should lay off for a while and then be low key. Just refuse to talk politics with him.

9. if America can survive the Civil War I guess it can survive G.Bush
I was heartened by Gore Vidal this morning when he said in interview..'it's hard to imagine but this entire administration will be gone one day..every one of them"

7. Pinko liberal commie slime!
That's us. Read the hate mail from my web site if you ever get the chance. It's really bad when you're a veteran that opposes the war in Iraq.

I also belong to Vets for Peace, which seems to drive right-wingers absolutely insane.

Comes with the territory, I guess.

But welcome to the club. We're many, we're hated, we're liberal!

15. Vets for peace? Sounds good to me!
What about those currently in? Just because chimpy is my Commander-in-Thief doesn't mean I voted for him or approve of him. Now if you'll excuse me, just the thought of chimpy makes me want to :puke:

11. I, too, have dumped my Republican "friends."
I just can't stand being with them anymore. As a liberal, I shouldn't be hatin' on someone just because of his/her political stance, but at the same time, they always think their right, and they want to shove that down my throat.

The solution: get new friends.

P.S.: I always thought the anti-Christ was going to be a smart man....of all people, you think it's Dubya?

14. I don't even speak to Republicans any more, unless asolutely necessary.
I have warned my children that they are not to date, or marry repugs. Not that they are that stupid! And they are all old enough to make their own choices, too, lol!

I, too, know that I should not despise people because of their political beliefs. I am much older than you, and in the past I have had many republican friends. I never used to judge people by their party affiliation. But times have changed. They drew the line in the sand. They started the hate. We have to defend ourselves.

Maybe they can take back their party. When I was a kid, there were honest republicans. They had people like Eisenhower. They had republicans in Congress who were ashamed of the things Nixon did. If they can cleanse themselves of the neocon taint, I might be willing to associate with them again. Until they do, I will continue to shun them.

12. Emotion
I was listening to WNMF,our local Tampa-Clearwater-St. Pete progressive radio station the other day, and they were interviewing a man who was a Republican from back before Goldwater. He's a progressive now, and he was putting a lot of things in perspective from Reagan, Vietnam, and now.

He didn't use the word "freeper", but he was describing their thought process to a "T". He said that when you're trying to argue with logic and reason and fact, against emotion, you're not going to win. They just won't listen.

As an atheist, I often run up against this mindset talking with fundamaniacs. You can show them in black and white, from their own texts they're wrong and it just don't connect. I think about the only thing you can do is create some cognizant dissonance in the back of their mind, that might snowball into a gradual awakening.

The interviewee I was talking about, has a book out called "Wars Are Us". It sounded interesting, and he's working on a second. I don't remember his name, but I found the book on a title search at Amazon.com. I'll probably order it this week.

13. Take the long view.

You can't argue with people who refuse to listen, so don't. Just smile and wait. Every time you meet the idiot you say something to rub him the wrong way.Mock all his treasured falacies with facts, but always with a smile. It drives them nuts.At some point what comes around goes around. Make sure you rub it in. No, its not going to educate them or change their minds, but you are not going to do so anyway. Don't waste your time or energy on these people. Save it for a receptive audience.

Just punch him. And move on.

I'm kidding. Violence never solved anything.

But man, that steams me.

19. And they say *WE* are the "angry" ones full of Hate...
Go figure...So, if we had health care for all, then the hospitals would be clogged up with people "wanting attenton"? what's clogging them up now? people flaunting their Blue Cross cards?

This is a good time for your friend, because the Pretzeldent gives him validation for his racist, sexist, xenophobic (did I leave anything out) ways. IOW, Bush makes it OK to hate things and people, sure, call 'em traitors and say they need to go live someplace else (Cuba is a popular destination these days, since the USSR imploded and we occupy Iraq and Afghanistan) it's the Murkan Way...

You're better off without him, he'd just turn you in for brown-nose points when the Roundups start....

20. I have neo con friends
and we do sometimes talk politics even though we completely disagree on everything. Sure we sometimes joke with each other. They call me a communist, I call them facists. But we are joking and we know it. If they seriously want to call me anti American, I will not be their friends. They can say my views go against what this country was founded on (something that can be debated) but just a blanket statement about me personally... no way. I would either agree never to discuss politics or not be friends.
