I saw an article in the online NY Post that said the dolls were major competition for the Barbie dolls.

1. counterculture style dolls
they challenge the stepford Barbie culture.

Bratz are more rave/hiphop - fat soled shoes etc..

3. They are various shades of brown, as well. Not a blonde in the
bunch.

I was so happy to be able to give my mixed race nieces dolls that resembled them.

I do see problems with the idealized feartures, but they are rather cartoonish, not like Barbie.

10. Get Groovy Girls if you want multi-raced dolls that AREN'T slutty
My eight year old LOVES the groovy girls dolls, and they come in all colors (races) and are absolutely not sexualized. They also have very cool accessories.

11. Thanks for the info
My half/Latina niece (six years old) is way into Bratz. The dolls really are little "ho's". I'm certainly happy to see multiracial dolls out there, but why do they have to look so slutty?

2. They are expensive as all get out.
I do know THAT much. That Bratz limo they advertised this year was over $60. The designer dolls are about $40. Now, if you go for the non-designer outfitted dolls you can get those for about $15.

How do i know this? My kid asked for them this year.

4. Just a new craze that is refreshing
Pricey? So is everything targeted at children. But they are so much better than Barbie and Ken. They are natural and imaginative. They are not purchased as teachers, beach beauties, corvette drivers, palace residents, etc. The child's imagination decides who they are. They are not anatomically correct and have exaggerated features. They are not thin and they are not fat. I love them.

9. uh ... they're highly sexualized ... in case you haven't noticed
they're definitely Slutz.

But I guess in a time when Britney "America's cock-tease" Spears is considered just a nice little capitalist bubble gum pop star, well, it's okay to give your six year old daughter a doll with a ton of makeup that's dressed like a stripper.

I sure don't see what people think is so great about them.

5. H P Lovecraft
Their facial features remind me of the H P Lovecraft story "Shadow Over Innsmouth" where the ancient sea people have intermarried with humans producing offspring with fishy eyes.

7. A good friend of mine calls them "Slutz". They are awful with these
really weird twist off feet instead of shoes.
