Jack's first Christmas

Well, it's his first "real" Christmas. Last year he was only 6 months old.
This year is WAY better.
He caught on to the rip-open-the-pretty-paper-and-there's-something-GOOD-inside idea pretty fast. He's happy to "help" you open your presents as well as his own. Jack is very considerate, yes he is. Pretty soon, we are knee-deep in wrapping paper.
I hope he doesn't want to do this again tomorrow.

The high point of the morning was when Nasha-the-Dog helped Jack open one of his presents. She is his new best friend, so it just doesn't get any better than this.
Ace-the-Cat is still hiding in the garage.

Some of Jack's gifts were clothes, but he has NO time for these and they go flying over his shoulder with a toss as he moves on to the next toy gift. He is a huge fan of the Wiggles and is just as happy with the tag on the toy because it has a picture of the Wiggles on it.

So far, Jack's favorite thing is the big box that one of grandpa's gifts came in. He hunkers down inside and grandpa closes the lid. Jack jumps up and scares the bejesus out of all of us and then he laughs. Over and over again. This trick NEVER gets old. We have our own, live, Jack-In-The-Box.

After we open our gifts we have breakfast. Jack has a spoonful of grits, three Junior Mints (hey, it's Christmas!), and a bite of banana. He's through. More? No thanks. Sure? I SAID NO!

Jack is all tuckered out and getting a little cranky. Mommy says it's naptime and, for once, Jack doesn't argue.
Sleep tight, Jack. When you get up we'll go out and play with your new toys.

1. Oh, that is so nice

It makes me think of when our little one first enjoyed presents ( er paper.)I remember joking to my husband that we should just wrap boxes! etc. He is now almost 8 and wants media gifts and Legos, too
(we need to add a wing to the house) so savor the joy of simply ripping up the paper! I hope your family has had a great and blessed holiday. :)

with us. Give Jack a Christmas hug for me. I had my little niece Violet (18 months) who is totally into babies. They are such fun at this age, and makes me miss my 5 year old's (and 13 year old's) toddler days....

3. A damned near perfect day.

Jack got a 2 1/2 hour nap before we went down the street for dinner.
Sometimes he wakes up grumpy (I have no idea why), but not this time.

He was on his best behavior all evening. Smiling and giggling and playing peek-a-boo with total strangers. Helped himself to hors d'ouvres from the low coffee table and DID NOT SPILL. Also did not launch himself headfirst into the fireplace to test the abilities of the several goalies watching over him.
Jack is the life of the party.

He sat in his high chair during dinner and did not play with the table decorations. Pretty much did the "seen-and-not-heard" thing. Accepted, chewed, and actually SWALLOWED several morsels of food from mommy's plate. Jack's parents and grandparents are very proud of him.

4. A wonderful day, and the wonderful memories

Jack's first Christmas brought back!

Two decades further on, we had a quiet christmas. Not much in the way of gifts; small personal items that brought a smile to our faces because the person giving them really "knew" what the other person would love. So my 26 year old son loves the trumpet silencer I got him; it's been years since he could play his trumpet where he lives. He plays his guitar instead. Now he can play his trumpet in his apartment and get back to his musical "roots." And my 24 year old son smirked and put that pleased little boy look on his face over, if you can believe it, a goblin calendar. Still a hint of childlike wonder in the simplest things.

A wonderful christmas all around.
