and I write skewed superhero fiction so the whole idea of the show was a hard sell for me, but I like the way they are bringing it together. My two real points of contention are -
1: Episode 1 should have opened with the heroes as a team dealing with a monumental crisis, very confusing, lots of action, maybe 10 minutes worth, then flash back to the beginning and start the origin stories. In writing it's the equivalent of the "open strong" dictate. The first ep was REALLY fragmented and hard to follow.
2: Claire's motivation for hiding her abilities, i.e. she's indestructable and worries that it will make her an outcast at school. If I was writing it I'd have either made her not a popular cheerleader, or given her a power that manifested as something visible, skin turning blue, or feathers, or getting taller and stronger, and became increasingly difficult to hide from her peers. Since all she really has to do is "not do anything super" to keep her powers secret, then why is she so worried? Another approach would have been to make her compelled to act when someone's life was in danger and that even with her largely invisible powers, she would HAVE to do something super irrespective of the audience at the scene.
Those two little nits aside, I love the way the show is shaping up and I hope it lasts. NBC has a habit of whacking good oddball shows so I hope they buck the trend with this one. I also hope that it ends when it's supposed to end before it becomes an extended run of Misfits of Science.
