What do you think of Jimmy Buffett,
Ecstasy, and that fine? I have no problem with 1 and 3, and know nothing about 2.

French Customs Find 'Esctasy' Tablets in (Jimmy) Buffett's Suitcase

Sorry if this is a dupe; first I'd heard of it.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfgate/detail?blogi...

American singer Jimmy Buffett was detained by French customs officers earlier this week, after they reportedly found 100 ecstasy tablets in his luggage.

The Grammy winner arrived at Toulon-Hyeres International Airport in the south of France in a private jet on his way to holiday in St Tropez when the discovery was made.

Buffett was fined $380 and was released without charge, according to PageSix.com.

But a spokesperson for the singer insists the tablets were prescribed medication rather than ecstasy: "It was medicine prescribed by his doctor."

But the representative refuses to divulge the nature of the medication or any medical conditions the 59-year-old may be suffering from.

1. Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy....
A little pot would not surprise me...but Ecstasy...

However, this is not compelling evidence that it happened, so I will reserve judgement...

2. I love Jimmy Buffett!
I'm not quite a Parrot Head, but I've seen him 4 times in concert.

Regarding the drugs, I hope they were something prescribed by the doc. I think he got clean and sober awhile back, and would hate to see him fall off the wagon.

3. I love him, too. I spent endless hours downloading JB music,
"when it was legal to do so" or at least not illegal, on a dial-up. I hit many albums and found my favorites. I still cherish the finished product.

And I've yet to see/go to a concert!

4. I've done a bit of smugglin' - I've run my share of grass.

Made enough money to buy Miami but I pissed it away so fast.

But Jimmy running Ecstasy? Something just doesn't add up. Buffett is too chill for that, I can't see him rolling.

6. What does running mean? Using or selling? He surely has
no reason to sell. How many of these pills does it take to get high? I have no idea. Could it be for personal consumption?

8. if it actually is ecstasy
and he's only got a hundred pills i doubt he's got any intention to sell them. you can take only one and feel marvelous, but if you've got a long night ahead of you you could likely take 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 etc.. in one night.

if it is what this article says it is, i would find it hard to believe that it would be anything but a personal stash

12. In the context of the song it's smuggling.
But that's a song. I doubt Buffett is sitting on a pile of rolaty money and still forced to run drugs for money. :)

7. i don't like his music but ecstasy is a great drug
Edited on Fri Oct-06-06 09:52 PM by mark414
and i'll be the first to stand up and say that anyone who looks down on him or anyone else because of this drug has either never done it or took their drug use too far

most any drug is a very good thing if you're smart with it and keep it in moderation, always in moderation, and don't do dangerous things while under the influence (like dance in a hot sweaty rave all night long you fucking idiots!)

i had a friend who for years was plagued with depression and thoughts of suicide and he tried everything, every anti-depressant on the market, therapy, etc. etc. etc.

then he took ecstasy for the first time and for SIX MONTHS afterwards despite no change whatsoever in his living situation he was completely free of any sort of depression or suicidal thought, his roll was that positive of an experience.

don't believe the propaganda, drugs are a good thing

and on edit: if he had a hundred pills it would probably just be a stash for him and his friends - i've known people with more than that who never sold anything except to close friends.

who have killed themselves with this stuff because of ODs that stopped their hearts.
So, like any drug, including alcohol, moderation won't get you into trouble.

11. this is a helpful site
http://www.erowid.org

it covers information on every drug from caffeine to heroin and beyond

and more specifically:
http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/mdma/mdma.shtml their page dedicated to ecstasy

i am i guess what you would call a responsible drug user...responsible in the sense that i like to know what i'm taking and if i haven't taken it before i want to know what it's going to do to me...although once i know something pretty well i can get fairly reckless with it...oh well

10. I'm cool with Buffett
Like SeattleGirl, I'm not exactly a Parrothead, but I've always enjoyed his music (though "Margaritaville" has been played to death, IMO.)

I've never done ecstasy (or any other illegal substances, for that matter), but personally it's none of my business if Mr. Buffett indeed indulges in the aforementioned ecstasy. (He really doesn't seem like the ecstasy type, however). If what he had was indeed an illegal substance, $380 seems like a slap on the wrist, and the article didn't even mention if the tablets were confiscated, did it?

19. Listen to some of his other songs, not just the overplayed ones.
Try the Barometer Soup album.

"Remittance Man" and "The Diamond as Big as The Ritz" are absolutely excellent.

Nothing like putting on a JB album to cheer you up. For a little while you can imagine you are on the beach in Key West, or bar-hopping down Duval Street!!!
