Mother Gave Morphine To 2-Year-Old To Treat Chest Cold

MARION COUNTY, Fla. -- A Marion County mother was arrested for giving her child morphine to treat a cold.

Police said Marta Perkins used the morphine to treat her 2-year-old's chest congestion. Perkins had the morphine because she's battling cancer.

She was charged with child neglect.

The toddler did have to go the hospital, but should be okay.

My late wife did some very strange things while on Chemo and high doses of pain killers.

One was balling out the dog for barking, even-though he was sleeping quietly at the time. She did this all the time, got to be annoying.

Of course the question is how much, and how often to give morphine - and why give morphine when you can give the kid synthesized codine instead.
