I'm glad I didn't see that play. :eyes:

Well... I guess if you're 38 years old...

They did get a run off a later hit in the inning.

21. I just thought of something
How would you score that?

Only way that makes sense is Kent is out 9-2 but Drew is out 2 unassisted.

But then, without the throw, Drew isn't out.

But then again, you can't credit a fielder with two assists on one throw.

Can you?

25. Maybe you can credit 2 assists
Since it has little or no precedent.

Or the catcher gets his own assist?

26. It has precedent
Vinny said he'd seen a similar play but couldn't recount it.

That doesn't surprise me, since Vinny was calling games when it was nine balls and four strikes and a foul ball caught on the first bounce was an out.

If I were the scorer, I'd give Drew's out to LoDuca unassisted. But I wouldn't feel too sure about it.

Wait — maybe Gameday has it.

Yeah, they gave Green just the assist on Kent.

12. Martin hit one to the base of the wall
with Kent at second and Drew at first.

Both tried to score.

Both failed.

13. The East Coast Sports Mafia strikes again
Gee, ya think there's not a bit of BIAS by the "homers" in the booth?? They way they reacted to the home runs was like a fan of the team. :grr:

"This is why I think the Mets will prevail... they have the POWER the Dodgers don't!"

They can kiss my ass. Fucking ESPN.

14. The Dodgers hit 160 homers this season
That's hardly a lack of power.

And who the fuck cares what a sports announcer thinks, anyway? Especially one who's seeing at least one of the clubs for maybe the first time all season.

Fuck ALL corporate media.

15. I know!
It's a lifelong gripe of mine, and I noticed it when I lived on the east coast!

They keep gushing over the Mets... it's unprofessional and embarrassing. That is what makes Vin Scully the Master - he is no "homer" when he calls the Dodgers games.

We REALLY NEED this win, just to shut those smug fuckers UP. EVERY game so far has gone the other way. This is the only one I ask not to.

We'll take tomorrow... the Dodgers have a never-say-die style which is what made the game more exciting. Then we'll finish them off in L.A.

28. The Mets win with two arms tied behind their backs!!!!!!
Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 08:52 PM by NNadir
Or two legs (those of Pedro and El Duque) tied up or something.

Actually, I've felt good about John Maine all year. I'm glad he's in there. He's a part of our future.

He did a good job, with the help of the Dodger's coaches, of course, but he hung in there. A good kid.

The way the Mets won tonight is the way the Mets have been winning all year. They're one of the few teams that can overcome a lack of outstanding pitching. The Mets are going to surprise a lot of people who thought the season ended with El Duque's sprint.

30. And the Dodgers kept coming back...
The way they have all year. Be glad their rally today was unsuccessful... most of them DO work, and for that, the Mets should not be too cocky.

The botched coaching in the 2nd aside, Maine is not that good. He had how many pitches? Jesus, if this is the best they can do without their starters, you better enjoy this while it lasts.

Dodgers in 5.

32. Coming back and falling short.
Maine is a kid. He pitched 26 continuous innings of shutout ball this summer, beginning with the last time El Duque was injured. Did a lot of Dodger pitchers do something similar this summer? He had a little nerves tonight, but clearly none of the other Mets did.

The Dodgers just completed one of their big win streaks and now are beginning to play one of their big losing streaks, truncated by the length of the playoffs.

Great Grady Little managing by the way, two out at the plate. Having lived in LA, I'll be they'll be crying all winter about that one.

Mets in three.

33. How do you blame that on Little?
Was he coaching at third?
Little's mistake was bringing in Penny. And, no, that's not a second-guess; I was going :wtf: when he did it.

Pitchers get used to their roles; you don't just stick a guy in to relieve because he's been a solid starter, and Little should know that. I don't know if he panicked without Beimel or if Sele or Tomko weren't available or if he didn't want to put in Broxton that early, but it was a bonehead move, IMO.

Some of our hitters (cough*Lofton*cough) couldn't figure out Maine and we left way too many guys on base. It may well be quite different with Glavine; then again, it may not.

Either way, all this trash talk is bullshit.
