"What's the big deal about having a pregnancy?"
Said some little prick in my class last night. He was arguing against a woman's right to choose, and insisted that since *most* women are perfectly able (barring unforeseen circumstances) to carry a baby, and be healthy afterwards, delivering a child, and giving it up should be the only option to consider.
"They're more concerned with how they will look after a pregnancy, than with the welfare of their baby," he said.

O.M.G.

Situational issues ASIDE, from a strictly physical standpoint, the COSMETIC reults of bearing children, on the mother, are HARDLY the only lasting physical affects! Puh-leeze! Having had a child changes your freaking BIOLOGY. I was never, nor have any of my friends with children ever professed to be, the *same*, after having a baby, physically. Forget stretch marks and baby weight! Having one child can affect your ability to have future children. In my case, my hormones changed, my teeth, my eyes, my posture, my knees, my feet, my skin, my brain function. EVERYTHING fucking changed. I sometimes can't believe how ignorant people are about the many ways, physical, emotional, and logistical, that a pregnancy (not even the child itself) changes a woman's life.

Ugh!

2. When a guy has to carry a baby for nine months
And give birth to it, I'll listen to this sort of argument.

Until then, he can go fuck himself.

That's what ticks me off.

BC pills would be handed out in GRADE SCHOOL like M & M's, and they would hand out medals to doctors who perform abortions.

If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a god-given right. What an asshat. I hope the only sex he ever has is with his hand or women who have been paid handsomely for their time.

His body, his experience, his deeply personal emotions.

Edited to add that giving up the baby after a pregnancy is sometimes more than a woman can bear.

they MUST have children. :eyes: Hey, dude, I'll bet you CAN stick all kinds of things up your ass; therefore, as a man, you MUST. What's the big deal with putting things there? And I'll roll my eyes when you tell me you choose not to. And I'll bet you WON'T, 'cause you're more concerned about how you will look after doing that than with the welfare of anyone else. :grr:  (NOTE: Not exactly the same thing as pregnancy, but to a guy, that's close enough.)

I hope you kicked him in the right spot so that you prevent him from ever being able to reproduce.

17. Then is He willing to be pregnant? or at least breast feed?
The idea gets kicked around every once in a while of men carrying babies. Apparently the hard part is getting the man to survive the delivery without bleeding to death.

OTOH he is probably completly unaware of the changes a man can go thru from being close to a pregnant woman.

23. I got this from wind-raven's journal, it's
an excellent read and it has some great points...I gather it's in response to some south dakota abortion law changes:
http://www.fucksouthdakota.com/

I especially like this line:

"So let’s drop the caring about the babies bullshit, ok? There are more kids in protective custody in South Dakota than there were abortions last year, so if you’re done pushing bloody photos in Sally’s face when she shows up for her pap smear, how about swinging by children’s services and giving one of those whippersnappers a home. Or does your politics stop at the edge of the vaginal canal?"

24. AFAIK, there is greater risk in pregnancy than in abortion.
Maternal mortality and other physical complications, I mean.

Even though I had pretty easy pregnancies and births, I'd be glad to tell that little prick what the big deal is. Only someone who's never been through it could say something so ignorant. May he be stricken with nausea, food aversions, swollen feet, a need to pee every hour, thirty extra pounds, sleepiness at the wrong time, sleeplessness at night, cravings, thinning hair, and unattractive clothing forever and ever ramen.

And the freaking miscarriage hurt a HELLUVA lot more than the abortion. Nothing like passing huge clots for a week or so until you're ready to pass out from loss of blood.

Single mother, $27,000 a year job, barely struggling by....

and then having a problem pregnancy where you have to do complete bedrest for 9 months.

How exactly is this person supposed to house, feed, and clothe themselves, let alone pay for doctor visits and well-mother care for 9 months?

30. Men do not carry babies; they are overly opinionated about them
I have not had the experience of pregnancy, but I confess I was a bit afraid of it. Not of weight gain but the other side effects, not to mention what if the child didn't have my good DNA or partner/spouse's DNA to enable her/him to be the best all parents want.

32. He's an ignorant asshole
There is not necessarily anything perjorative about being ignorant per se. As a man, I'm ignorant about all kinds of things. What makes him additionally an asshole is that he pontificating about things of which he is completely ignorant.

Right off the bat, I can't think of many other mammals walk on two feet. So we have the problem of supporting the growing embryo (and sundry umm stuff) upright. Even our nearest primate cousins go around on knuckles pretty much full time. I can't exactly reverse 3,000,000 years of evolution and expect the missus to start crawling around on all fours.

So bipedalism has already fucked us up to a certain extent i.e. back problems.

Oh and another thing about that three million years. We were growing a brain. The problem is that the brain is growing faster than the pelvis. So a human female is required to deliver a baby with a baby with a ginormous head containing a ginormous brain at birth. All this makes human childbirth a somewhat more risky endeavor than it is for pretty much all other species.

I grew up on a farm. I saw two difficult births but mostly the rest were easy ones. So I go out of my way to offer any pregnant woman the utmost courtesy and respect. I figure it's the least I can do.

or the students who (like me) are non-religious, but (unlike me) don't understand why we have to study "religious shit" in our class, since "it's a public school." It's a class called, "Analysis of Public Discourse," you dumbasses, you don't think Jesus' and Moses' historical influences are significant enough to warrant analysis? There's a bit of difference between studying religious philosophy and influence and actively being indoctrinated.

Out of about thirty-five people in class last week, FOUR of us had done the homework we were assigned.

Criminy.
