Apparently coyotes are dangerous animals!
According to the local news, people in one neighborhood are worried about a coyote hanging around. Animal control has tried trapping it but the coyote is smarter than they are. I can't believe how divorced most people are from nature. Now, unless the coyote is rabid, only their pets are in any danger and I am not sure how much danger at that. Sooner or later it will go away on its own.

Well I saw a gray fox today. I guess it should be shot. It might eat me!

1. coyotes are actually huge cowards
One of my bio professors is doing an experiment radio tracking local coyotes-- they're big cowards. No one should worry about a coyote.

2. I know; it was just local news stupidity
They couldn't find anything else to report on between car chases.

4. Small pets should be kept indoors though. Coyotes are
opportunists and there have been several small dogs killed around here when people leave them in their yards

6. That's the fault of irresponsible owners though. Not coyotes.
The coyotes are just being coyotes. Unfortunately, for the small dogs, the owners were idiots.

3. We get a lot of coyotes by me.
They run away when they see people.

5. about 10 years ago or so,
a coyote was spotted in downtown chicago. it was seen in and around navy pier, which used to be a navy pier, but is now a tourist trap. it was winter, and the ice around the pier gave the coyote a great deal of access to all kinds of nice little hiding spots. animal control chased the thing around for 3 days. i don't think they ever caught it.
i was especially pissed off because this city is full of rodents, feral cats, all kinds of critters that would be best dealt with by a nice low level predator like coyotes.
they don't chase them anymore. and they tell people their cats and small dogs should not be out alone, anyway.
i like 'em. they are welcome by me.
