Songs that send shivers down your spine (in a good way)
I'm not sure exactly why but I've always had that reaction to the Richard Thompson song 1952 Vincent Black Lightning. That line "They did ride" just gets to me.

The first time I ever heard it was when I saw him on that old PBS show Sessions at West 54th, accompanied by Nanci Griffith.

What about you?

20. Amazing...
I remember hearing that song in Watership Down and it made me cry too (I was about 12 at the time) :)

I'll have to say Countdown by Rush
Its about the first space shuttle launch, and the words and music really capture the beauty of the event.
It shows what humans can do when they're at their best.

I love the comparision of the shuttle to a white dragon...

The video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGdErD9Oj3M

RUSH
Countdown

Lit up with anticipation
We arrive at the launching site
The sky is still dark, nearing dawn
On the Florida coastline

Circling choppers slash the night
With roving searchlight beams
This magic day when super-science
Mingles with the bright stuff of dreams

Floodlit in the hazy distance
The star of this unearthly show
Venting vapours, like the breath
Of a sleeping white dragon

Crackling speakers, voices tense
Resume the final count
All systems check, T minus nine
As the sun and the drama start to mount

The air is charged
A humid, motionless mass
The crowds and the cameras,
The cars full of spectators pass
Excitement so thick you could cut it with a knife
Technology...high, on the leading edge of life

The earth beneath us starts to tremble
With the spreading of a low black cloud
A thunderous roar shakes the air
Like the whole world exploding

Scorching blast of golden fire
As it slowly leaves the ground
Tears away with a mighty force
The air is shattered by the awesome sound

Like a pillar of cloud
The smoke lingers high in the air
In fascination
With the eyes of the world
We stare...

16. I've not heard many songs, so I will say these three:
(From worst to best)

The Cranberries: Zombie ("but you see, it's not me, it's not my family. In your head, in your head they're still fighting)

Ludwig Van Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 in D minor ('Choral') Op. 125: Presto - Allegor assia/ Recitative - Allegro assai (because it is a great piece of music if you listen all the way through and don't just cherry-pick that little bit and ruin the suprise for everyone)

Wal George Freederick Handel: The Hallelujah Chorus. :)

(The line "The kingdom of this world is become the kingdom of our lord" is sung so well, I love it. I will also add that I am an atheist)

21. Melissa Ferrick's "Drive" sends shivers further than my spine
"If you want this
if you want this
if you want this, you’re gonna have to ask
nicely please
yeah if you want this

you’re gonna have to ask me
you’re gonna have to ask me

Whatever you want
I’ll give it to you
I’ll give it to you slowly
‘till you’re just begging me to hold you
ya whatever you want
whatever you want
but you’re gonna have to ask me

Your mouth waters
stretched out on my bed
your fingers are trembling
and your heart is heavy and red
and your head is bent back
and your back is arched
my hand is under there
holding you up

I’ll hold you up
and drive you all night
I’ll hold you up
and drive you baby ‘till you feel the daylight
I’ll hold you up
and drive you all night
I’ll hold you up
and drive you ‘till you feel the daylight
that’s right
that’s right

In the kitchen
in the shower
and in the back seat of my car
I’ll hold you up
in your office
preferably during business hours
‘cause you know how I like it when there’s people around
and I know how you like it
yeah I know how you like it
I know how you like it when I tease you for hours

Your mouth waters
stretched out on my bed
your fingers are trembling
and your heart is heavy and red
and your head is bent back
and your back is arched
and my hand is under there
holding you up

I’ll hold you up
and drive you all night
I’ll hold you up
and drive you baby ‘till you feel the daylight
I’ll hold you up
and drive you all night
I’ll hold you up
and drive you ‘till you feel the daylight
oh and this has just begun

Yeah this has just begun
because we haven’t even gotten started yet
I haven’t even
I haven’t even tied you up
I haven’t even turned you over
this is where I want to live
right here between your hips
where all the love you hold and hide
it’s where it lives
right here between your hips
this is where I want to live
it’s where all the love you give exists

Your mouth waters
stretched out on my bed
your fingers are trembling
and your heart is heavy and red
your head is bent back
your back is arched
my hand is under there
holding you up

I’ll hold you up
and drive you all night
I’ll hold you up
and drive you baby ‘till you feel the daylight
I’ll hold you up
and drive you all night
I’ll hold you up
and drive you baby ‘’till you feel the daylight
that’s right
yeah
that’s right
that’s right
that’s right
I’ll hold you up
that’s right
that’s right
I’ll drive you all night"

26. Who Wants To Live Forever by Queen
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 11:38 PM by MrScorpio
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3p-yIvI9qzg

There's no time for us
There's no place for us
What is this thing that builds our dreams, yet slips away
from us
Who wants to live forever? (twice)

There's no chance for us
It's all decided for us
This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us

Who wants to live forever? (twice)
Who dares to love forever
When love must die?

But touch my tears with your lips
Touch my world with your fingertips
And we can have forever
And we can love forever
Forever is ours today
Who wants to live forever
Who wants to live forever
Forever is ours today
Who waits forever anyway?

One of the great things about HIGHLANDER
