This is my friend's cat, and this means a lot to her. She finally joined DU last fall, as a surprise for me on my birthday, after I sent her DU threads for at least a couple of years, LOL. She really is one of us. And her cat is equally deserving. He is very handsome, but he's also from rescue. He became homeless when his doting owner was deployed to Iraq. That's one of the things about him that really got to my friend. I told her that she should bill him as "the world's most patriotic cat...":patriot:

Would you believe that I used to think I was a dog person? I still love dogs but after having my first cat foisted upon me (a friend who worked at a vets called and said they were going to put a month old kitten down right then if I didn't take it) I discovered that lo and behold, I am totally a cat person.

These little purring bundles of fur have completely taken over my life.

19. Oh, I grew up with dogs!

I never liked cats until I rescued my kitty Nikki about 10 years ago. I had to put her to sleep about a year and a half ago, and it broke my heart. I wasn't ready to adopt again yet, and then I found out about fostering from a gal at the Shape magazine message boards. I found a no-kill shelter here that needed fosters, and I have had about 20 kitties pass through my home since! I couldn't love every one of them more!!!

BTW, I thought the contest might end tomorrow since it is the end of the month, so I went ahead and posted it on the Shape boards in the Social Center (their version of the Lounge). The ladies there are cool... 90% liberals, and 90% cat lovers!

... I almost hope so because this is getting wearing checking to see how many votes he has and whether or not Trio is gaining on him or not.

I had to have my first cat put to sleep just about a year and a half ago too. She was 17 1/2 years old at the time. I had no intention of adopting another cat when I found Cali but he hypnotized me and convinced me to take him home. I still feel bad sometimes because poor Cali annoys me sometimes just because he isn't Cato (my first cat).

I admire anyone who can foster animals, I'm afraid I'd become too attached and not be able to let them go, before you know it I'm the crazy cat lady. :crazy:
