***Blotchy***
My face is blotchy...........

The right side has three reddened areas, thanks to the efforts of my dermatologist.......

I went in to see him since I'd found one spot that looked suspicious to me.......

He froze them off today! It stings for a second, and then you're done!

Since I have a redhead's complexion, I need to be on the lookout for skin cancers!

I've found, and had removed several, over the years.......

But today he found two more that I hadn't seen......:scared:

Plus, he saw one that might be a basal cell cancer......but he's not sure....

So I have to go back in six weeks to see what's what .......

If it is a basal cell cancer, he will have to cut that one out....

Never a dull moment on my face!

1. Awe....try not to worrry...
I've had several close family members who have gone through the same thing. It's pretty common, from what I understand...especially with our damaged ozone layer! The curse of a cameo complexion, for sure! :pals:

2. My dear KC2........
Thanks, sweetie........

I'm not really worried.........just concerned a bit!

I've had many removed over the years.......

They date back to my dissipated youth, when sunscreen was never heard or thought of!

But right now, I look awful!

And they do run in my family......my mom and her mom both have had them taken off......

:loveya:

..something I'm more than likely going to have to deal with soon myself.

Edit: Sorry, Peggy, when I re-read my post it seemed rather insensitive. I deleted the last part.

4. Funny thing is, I had the same thing happen to me two weeks ago
and my complexion is always clear...I had those funky red spots in the same frigging place! Of course, my niece's wedding was one of those days so my sister gave me some kind of cover-up shit to put over it. The damn thing cleared up two days later....:eyes:

I'm sure you must think that it's a never-ending drama at my house.......

But really it isn't.......

I've just had a lot of stuff on my mind.....

And it seems natural to talk to all of you good folks about it.......

As long as I stay alert to what's going on on my face, I will be OK...

Thanks for being there for me!

These little pre-cancers show up every now and then......

Just one of the down-sides to having a red-headed complexion!

I'll be all healed and quite presentable in time for the meet-up!

Thanks, sweetie!

11. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen.
Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen.

And a hat. Maybe also a parasol. Those were quite stylish at one time, maybe you could bring the fashion back?

I know, I know......and a nurse, to boot!

We make the worst patients!

I hate hats...and parasols? Forget that!

I will get better about sunscreen though.......

This was the most I've had removed at one time, and I must admit it did set me back a bit.......

Thanks for the reminders........and I mean it!

13. My Granny Hurley was White Irish, and what a sight she was when she
took us kids to the beach...hat, scarf, umbrella, sunglasses, and I swear, sometimes even a raincoat!

But she never got melanoma. Her daughter (my mother) decided to tan instead, and did get melanoma. And died from it.

We brown ones can take some chances, but you fair ones, you cannot.

And what's wrong with parasols? Go to Viet Nam, and you'll see the most beautiful women in the world, walking down the street in their white ao dais, holding hands with one another, chatting away in the most fetching voices (say, is it getting warm in here, or is it just me?), with one of them carring a rice-paper parasol for them to share.

See that sight, and tell me there's something wrong with a parasol.

I think they're lovely.......

But I hate having too many things to juggle in my hands at one time...

I will not die from melanoma, I promise you!

You have my word on this.

14. I had basal cell carcinoma.
It really wasn't a big deal.

I also had a few pre-cancerous spots since then.

The bad part was that I needed Moh's surgery - and it was right
in the middle of my upper lip-----the cupid's bow part.

I've had the basal cell carcinoma too.....at least one time.

The doctor did want to carve on me a couple of times to make sure he got it all...

It has not recurred.....

The rest were pre-cancers.

I'm sorry to hear about your upper lip.......

23. Thanks CalPeg
The cancer never scared me at all.

But that freaking surgery on my lip---that really was awful.

(I'm not bragging), but I have very full lips---maybe my best feature.

I went to a dermatologist, who upon receiving the biopsy results informed me I have to see a Moh's specialist
cause the cancer was in such a delicate area; he didn't want my face to get messed up.
So, I was sent to this Moh's surgeon- he is actually the top man of the American Cancer Society. He does this unnecessary surgery (found out it was stage one---I could have just stayed with the first Dr.)

Then, after many months (maybe a year?), he says--"Oh, it never did heal correctly--I'm sending you to a plastic surgeon."
So the P.S takes my consultation fee money, and sets up an appointment for me for reconstructive plastic surgery.

The day of the surgery, I'm lying there on the operating table, and the Dr. freaks out, and says he can't do it.
He tells me he's afraid it's going to end up looking worse....Now, this Dr. is on the list
of New York's BEST plastic surgeons.

I gave up.

Yeah, I know about the sunscreen.....I promise to be much better about wearing it!

If you have to get a cancer, the basal cell is the one to get......

They aren't aggressive, they grow slowly and they are shallow on the top of your skin!

Not invasive, in other words.........

You're so right, sweetie!

Actually, Wednesday I went for a *gasp* routine checkup with my cardiologist!

And he was thrilled at how good my weight and blood pressure are!

Let me just say I continue to lose weight....5 pounds since six months ago......

And......my BP? 112/60! It hasn't been that low in forever!

So.......I'm really doing OK.......

Thanks.......I appreciate your good thoughts here tonight.....

Hey Peggy - I thought of you today as I drove to my Dad's! While driving through Oshkosh, I saw a car that had "Ripon College" written on the door panel. Obviously, you came to mind immediately. :)

 I'm so glad your doctor found the cells early!

30. Could it possibly be rosacea?
That can cause facial redness, blotchiness and skin eruptions. My dentist had this when she was pregnant and it looked, well, very noticeable, but it eventually went away. And my neighbor, a retired lady in her 70s, has had bouts of skin cancer, has had patches removed from her face, but she doesn't seem to be overly worried about it. I'm sorry that I don't know more, but I wish you only good luck with this. It may not be as serious as you think...:-)

32. My dear Rhiannon......
Ah, thank you, sweetie!

But these blotches are caused by the freezing done by my dermatologist yesterday to kill the pre-cancerous cells on my face...

They will eventually disappear......

I do appreciate your very good information, nonetheless!
