Inconsiderate customer of the week
Inconsiderate people suck. I just thought I'd point that out.

I had a customer call me on Monday, frantic. She was going to a wedding on Wednesday and had promised to bring wine. Another store was supposed to get it for her but they'd told her that morning that they couldn't get it until Thursday (probably forgot to order it).

I calmed her down, told her I could order it that day and it would come in early Wed morning. I would then make it a priority to dig it out from my load so it would be ready when she and her husband swung by to pick it up on their way out of town. She gave me her home and work numbers, also both her and her husband's cell numbers and thanked me a billion times.

Yesterday morning, my load arrives. Now I'd ordered a big load and corporate had seen fit to tack on an additional pallet and a half worth of product so I had 7 pallets of wine and liquor. As promised, first thing, I spent nearly 3/4 of an hour going through the whole thing and pulling out her four cases of wine - they were packed in plastic tubs so I couldn't see them without opening every single one. :nuke:

After wasting a considerable amount of time doing this, the customer never showed up. When I finally got in touch with her (after calling all her numbers all morning and leaving messages informing her I had the wine ready for pick-up), she told me they were already on the way and couldn't turn around - "we didn't get your message until we were already gone."

Now this nitwit had managed to call me so she could ask me to order the wine but apparently, it was too difficult to call and ask if it had arrived. I'd spent all morning trying to call her but no one was answering the phone, any of the phones, leading me to believe that I was being ignored in the hopes I'd just go away (no doubt because they found the wine somewhere else).

Now, I don't really care if they did but it would have been nice if they'd simply given me a call and let me know they didn't want it. Then I wouldn't have spent so much time on their frigging order (which caused me to get close to an hour of overtime which I didn't particularly want). Instead, like children, they decided to act like they'd never ordered it.

Now I'm stuck with 4 cases of wine that I'll have until doomsday because it's not one of my better sellers. I'm always happy to order product for customers but it would be nice if people actually were sure they wanted it before they ordered because I don't have room to store their indecisions. I wish I could charge a non-refundable deposit but the company won't let me. Pisses me off because it makes me leery of doing the same for others.

~sigh~ thanks for letting me vent

1. That stinks!
:grr:... This is where stores need a policy that if you order it, you bought it, or a deposit or something.

I was in a Subway shop today (the sub store) and this woman in front of me (while the line piled up behind me) first made the server get "fresh lettuce, because that looks brown" and then she picked each and ever cucumber ("not that one...the one to the left of it" green pepper and olive...and then bitched about the cheese choices and ended up with "You know what? Forget it. The service here sucks..." I wanted so badly to trip her with my cast. x(

4. I'll admit it - I was rude to her
In a professional way, of course. ;) After she'd stumbled through her lame excuses (essentially blaming me because they got my message too late), I snapped, "So you're telling me I'm stuck with it?"

She said, "Well, um, yeah, er..."

I said, cutting her off "Okay, thanks a lot!" in a very snippy tone and hung up on her.

She will never have another bottle of wine ordered for her from my store.

2. Oh my god, that's absurd
Inconsiderate people suck, I agree. The least she could have done would be to call you back and let you know they didn't need it, and apologize for inconveniencing you. Good grief.

5. People!!
Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em! Grr. It makes me furious when people are selfish pig-heads! Do they have a "W" sticker on their car, too? I wouldn't be surprised. :grr:

7. You see 'em all in retail
Edited on Thu Sep-28-06 04:59 PM by skygazer
And oddly, I mostly enjoy retail. I like people and probably 95% of my customers are just nice, regular people. It's that 5% that really stand out, though. The ones who feel they're entitled and the world exists simply to do their bidding - especially lowly retail drones.

edited to fix a their/they're mishap  Forgive me - I got up at 1:30 this morning.

8. Ah, yes..."the entitled"
...I know them well.

Amazing how some people think the world revolves around them...and only them, isn't it?
