Do you like dreadlocks?
I can't get used to dreadlocks. I'm trying. But I think they look awful.

Does that make an old fogey?

I feel the same way about pants that hang down to knees and show your underwear. I just hate that.

1. Does that make an old fogey?
Pretty much.

Either reject it, or embrace the fogeyness, I sez.

9. The dreads i've seen, no.
They were nasty, and the style wearers did not properly wash their hair, and it STUNK! I was told you can't wash them. I'm all for freedom of expression, but if ya got nastiness goin' on you can stay far from me.

And they sure as hell didn't wash them in there. To worried about them falling apart. If someone washes them fines by me. I honestly don't care if the don't wash them either, just stand back a few feet so i don't have to smell it.

20. Yes that is true.
Not to mention many of these guys were real Jamaicans and Haitians who held a very traditional view on the care of their Dreads. I saw some who had to have their's cut off because the developed large ulcerations in their scalps.

23. You need a shampoo that contains no conditioners/whathaveyou
Regular shampoos act to detangle hair, and basicaly, dreads are just very tangled hair, haha.

This is what I use: http://www.knottyboy.com/shop/dread_shampoo/knotty_boy_shampoo_bar/

14. I worked with a woman once who was the motherly type...
...and she would see guys walking around campus (at a community college) like that. She knew most of them, so she had no problem whatsoever in walking right up to them and giving them hell. "Does your mama know you walk around town like that? What if your drawers fell down to your ankles? Pull them UP!" She was half-joking and half not, but those guys knew to pay attention to her. They'd pull them up and kept them up all day. If she saw them again like that, she'd give them hell again. She actually broke most of them of the bad habit.

24. Most of them
There is one guy in my town that I see a lot. He has one single dread that covers the entire back of his head. Its about 4" across and is now down to his waist. It is quite bizarre looking and looks like a raccoon or fox tail. I did hear from my son that he has some mental issues that after having been in a bad car accident he won't get in any type of vehicle. He runs everywhere.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. You're not an "old fogey" if you don't like 'em. They're just not your thang...No biggie.

But hey, I can relate with regards to the underwear showing. That just looks soooo lame to me. :eyes:

41. wrong.
only a man would say that, lol.

If you knew what kind of time (and money) my mother and sister spend on their hair...and probably half of the stuff they put on it is toxic as hell. Your statement about vanity probably applies to at least 50 percent of women walking around, though I'm sure you didn't intend to insult people with 'styled' hair, which is a heck of alot of females and plenty of men, too.

I don't have dreads, but I think they are gorgeous...I love the way they look. I've had them in the past, but my hair is really too fine to keep them, I'd have to have extensions to really make them look good. When I had them I just wore a bandana, and didn't mess with them.

Right now I rarely brush my hair more than twice a week, at the very most, because I just hate doing it. I just wear it wrapped up in a bun. I think people get dreads because they don't want to fool with their hair, not because they do.

I don't know that styles which are popular today are any more or less disturbing to our elders than they were in days past. Except that we are now the "elders! I try to remember that when I see the guys tripping over their over-sized pants! ;)

people used to hate when we wore those giant elephant bells when I was a teen, so there you go.

47. They're cool with me
I tend to support long hair on guys in general just 'cause it's become such a rarity in recent years. I do think people with dredlocks should wash their hair as often as is reasonable to keep their scalp from being overly oily or smelling bad, but that's true for anyone with any sort of hair. But overall, they seem like a more manageable style for guys with curly hair who want to keep it long.
