Sympathy Wanted - I just found out that my Dad
is a rabid Bush supporter.

We were unsure of his political leanings. He used to be very liberal, supporting organizations working to reduce world poverty and hunger.

Many years ago the company he owned (in the deep south) employed an African American engineer back when it raised big eyebrows.

He retired, moved to North Carolina and learned how to email. He began forwarding right-wing garbage but he claimed he was just forwarding stuff he received from his Shriner buddies.

I continued to hope.

Recently I emailed him about the HBO Documentary of Barry Goldwater and he let the cat of of the bag.

I'm so depressed. I cannot even get the nerve to tell my sisters much less think of visiting him again.

1. Did you ask him

3. I'm afraid his answer would just piss me off.
It is safer just to attribute it to senility.

(Yes, I'm a coward)

2. Don't lose hope.
I bet I'm not the only one coming from a
"mixed" family. Yep, we're 50/50 Dems-Repubs.

You learn to live with it. We avoid discussing politics
for the most part. We can agree on the environment
and global warming.

I feel your pain, though.
One of the family members use to be a Dem!

6. Well, I have a good friend who is a repub
And has been since he was 18....but never voted for any Repubs in elections (with the exception of Bob Packwood and Mark Hatfield)

He's an Oregon Republican, and they're a strange breed.

But he votes Dem pretty much 100% now
