Fight Over Opossum Leaves Man Tasered, Arrested And Dog Shot

SAN DIEGO --A dispute that began over the capture of an opossum in a residential neighborhood ended with police shooting a Rottweiler and arresting a man after stunning him with a Taser gun.

A fight broke out in the Talmadge area of San Diego after a resident saw a large opossum running in the area Tuesday and asked a maintenance worker to corral the feral animal, prompting a call to police.

An officer at the scene shot a Taser gun at one man who became combative, according to police reports.

The man removed the barbs and fled through a neighboring yard, where a Rottweiler allegedly came at the officer. The officer fired several shots in self-defense, police said.

The man was found and arrested a short time later. Police said they were evaluating him for being under the influence.

The dog was taken to an animal hospital. Its condition was not immediately available.

The ones in my neighborhood should be grateful that we aren't allowed to shoot them with firearms, and they should be further grateful that I don't own a BB gun.

One of my neighbor's pit bulls got hold of one once and tore it to pieces. They don't back down to dogs. Luckily, my dog is scared of them and avoids them.

sorry, Over the years, I have found the animal kingdom much more deserving of respect than humans.

IMHO, an opossum would be doing a better job of running the country than the firecracker frog boy.

Except for skunks, I am not sure why the wild critters can't be left alone. I would worry that my dogs might attack it and get hurt, but that's their fault if they do.

I saved three baby possums once when their mother was roadkill. A country living co-worker said I shoulda drowned them.
