Post a lyric from a song that you find sort of poetic.
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 08:12 PM by GoPsUx
"I know I'm alone if I'm with or without you" Rilo Kiley.. Portions for foxes

"I've learned some things that only time can teach,For instance, love is more than just a speech,It's got to find a common ground,
I know 'cause I've been to town" Frank Sinatra ..I've been to town

"You look so fine I want to break your heart And give you mine You're taking me over It's so insane You've got me tethered and chained I hear your name And I'm falling over" Garbage..You look so fine

1. this is three stanzas but I just love it so I'm posting all of it

Fiona Apple -- Extroardinary Machine

I certainly haven't been spreading myself around
I still only travel by foot and by foot, it's a slow climb,
But I'm good at being uncomfortable, so
I can't stop changing all the time

I notice that my opponent is always on the go
And
Won't go slow, so's not to focus, and I notice
He'll hitch a ride with any guide, as long as
They go fast from whence he came
But he's no good at being uncomfortable, so
He can't stop staying exactly the same

If there was a better way to go then it would find me
I can't help it, the road just rolls out behind me
Be kind to me, or treat me mean
I'll make the most of it, I'm an extraordinary machine

2. My Submissions....
"And all the promises we break
from the cradle to the grave
when all I want is you"
U2- All I Want Is You

"I don't believe in painted roses or bleeding hearts
while bullets rape the night of the merciful.
I'll see you again when the stars fall from the sky
and the moon has turned red over One Tree Hill"
U2- One Tree Hill

"If there's one thing that I've learned
It's the point of no return
And if that's to be our fate
Now's no time to hesitate"
Hoodoo Gurus- Death Defying

"No more turning away
from the weak and the weary
No more turning away from the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It's not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there'll be
No more turning away"
Pink Floyd- On the Turning Away

And Moon River- The entire song as sung by Ms. Hepburn.

6. Poetic? "Bricks"
by Rise Against...

When faith alone is not enough,
To keep our heads barely above,
We look for reason and come up empty-handed.
And when our children fight our wars,
While we sit back just keeping score,
We're teaching murder not understanding now.

We're setting the fires to light the way,
We're burning it all to begin again,
With hope in our hearts and bricks in our hands,
We sing for change

The lives our buried sons have laid,
Won't cancel debts we've yet to pay,
In death, we justify anything now,
As long as we blindly obey and do exactly what they say,
We'll have no one to blame, but ourselves now.

9. You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 08:50 PM by Ptah
You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we walk in fields of gold
So she took her love for to gaze awhile
Upon the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down
Among the fields of gold

Will you stay with me, will you be my love
Among the fields of barley?
We'll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we lie in fields of gold
See the west wind move like a lover so
Upon the fields of barley
Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth
Among the fields of gold

I never made promises lightly
And there have been some that I've broken
But I swear in the days still left
We'll walk in fields of gold
We'll walk in fields of gold

Many years have passed since those summer days
Among the fields of barley
See the children run as the sun goes down
Among the fields of gold
You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold
When we walked in fields of gold
When we walked in fields of gold

11. Early Floyd, - Learning to Fly
Into the distance, a ribbon of black
Stretched to the point of no turning back
A flight of fancy on a windswept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
A fatal attraction holding me fast, how
Can I escape this irresistible grasp?

Cant keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, i

Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I thought of everything
No navigator to guide my way home
Unladened, empty and turned to stone

A soul in tension thats learning to fly
Condition grounded but determined to try
Cant keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, i

...

Above the planet on a wing and a prayer,
My grubby halo, a vapour trail in the empty air,
Across the clouds I see my shadow fly
Out of the corner of my watering eye
A dream unthreatened by the morning light
Could blow this soul right through the roof of the night

Theres no sensation to compare with this
Suspended animation, a state of bliss
Cant keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, i

13. My submission...
Tales from my head
Can't buy the book
No one's listening
But I guess you could
Try whistling this
You say you're tired
Liquid as water
But you'll succumb now
As I stroke your back
I'm the best that you know
Every time you think of me
I hope you think of true romance
And every time you want to leave
You give us both another chance
Warmest welcome
Violent stranger
He said "Come here" as he pushed me down
Impossible to do
In high heels, walking into walls
Ever wonder if you're here at all
Try whistling this

damn, I can't remember the rest...it's on one of Neil Finn's solo albums and I was JUST LISTENING TO IT and I can't remember the rest of the words!!!!

18. Oooooh, I want in!!
"there's a gap in between
there's a gap where we meet
where i end and you begin" Radiohead

"How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here" Pink Floyd

"hey hey! just one more and i'll walk away all
the everything you win turns to nothing today
and i forget when to move when my mouth is this
dry and my eyes are bursting hearts in a blood-
stained sky oh it was sweet it was wild and oh
how we...i trembled stuck in honey honey
cling to me so just one more just one more go
inspire in me the desire in me to never go home" The Cure

"Because your candle burns too bright
Well, I almost forgot it was twilight
Even if I think that you are right
Well, I'm tired of being down, I got no fight" Elliot Smith

"And if a double-decker bus
Crashes in to us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well the pleasure, the privilege is mine" The Smiths

Last one (for now!):

"so don't give me respect don't give me a piece of your preciousness
flaunt all she's got in our old neighbourhood
i'm sure she'll make a few friends
even the rain bows down let us pray as you cock-cock-cock your mane
no cigarettes only peeled HAVANA'S for you i can be cruel
i don't know why
why can't my ba.ll.oo.n stay up in a perfectly windy sky
i can be cruel i don't know why
dance with the sufi's celebrate your top ten in the charts of pain
lover brother bogenvilla my vine twists around your need
even the rain is sharp like today as you sh-sh-shock me sane
no cigarettes only peeled HAVANA'S for you i can be cruel" Tori Amos

19. The whole song:
Katy tried
I was halfway crucified
I was on the other side
Of no tomorrow
You walked in
And my life began again
Just when I'd spent the last piaster
I could borrow
All night long
We would sing that stupid song
And every word we sang
I knew was true
Are you with me Doctor Wu
Are you really just a shadow
Of the man that I once knew
Are you crazy are you high
Or just an ordinary guy
Have you done all you can do
Are you with me Doctor

Don't seem right
I've been strung out here all night
I've been waiting for the taste
You said you'd bring to me
Biscayne Bay
Where the Cuban gentlemen sleep all day
I went searching for the song
You used to sing to me
Katy lies
You could see it in her eyes
But imagine my surprise
When I saw you

Are you with me Doctor Wu
Are you really just a shadow
Of the man that I once knew
She is lovely yes she's sly
And you're an ordinary guy
Has she finally got to you
Can you hear me Doctor

20. The Indigo Girls are modern American poets...
"Love's Recovery"

During the time of which I speak
It was hard to turn the other cheek
To the blows of insecurity
Feeding the cancer of my intellect
The blood of love soon neglected
Lay dying in the strength of its impurity
Meanwhile our friends we thought were so together
Theyve all gone and left each other
In search of fairer weather
And we sit here in our storm and drink a toast
To the slim chance of loves recovery

There I am in younger days, star gazing
Painting picture perfect maps
Of how my life and love would be
Not counting the unmarked paths of misdirection
My compass, faith in loves perfection
I missed ten million miles of road I should have seen
Meanwhile our friends we thought were so together
Left each other one by one on the road to fairer weather
And we sit here in our storm and drink a toast
To the slim chance of loves recovery

Rain soaked and voice choked
Like silent screaming in a dream
I search for our absolute distinction
Not content to bow and bend
To the whims of culture that swoop like vultures
Eating us away, eating us away
Eating us away to our extinction

Oh how I wish I were a trinity
So if I lost a part of me
Id still have two of the same to live
But nobody gets a lifetime rehearsal
As specks of dust were universal
To let this love survive
Would be the greatest gift that we could give
Tell all the friends who think theyre so together
That these are ghosts and mirages
All these thoughts of fairer weather
Though its storming out I feel safe within the arms
Of loves discovery

from 9th and Hennepin

"She has that razor sadness that only gets worse
With the clang and the thunder of the Southern Pacific going by
And the clock ticks out like a dripping faucet
'til you're full of rag water and bitters and blue ruin
And you spill out over the side to anyone who will listen...
And I've seen it all, I've seen it all
Through the yellow windows of the evening train..."

26. "Albatross," by Judy Collins, has always touched me deeply...
The lady comes to the gate dressed in lavender and leather,
Looking North to the sea, she finds the weather fine.
She hears the steeple bells ringing through the orchard
all the way from town,
She watches seagulls fly, silver on the ocean
stitching through the waves the edges of the sky.

Many people wander up the hills from all around you,
Making up your memories and thinking they have found you.
They cover you with veils of wonder as if you were a bride;
Young men holding violets are curious to know if you have cried,
And tell you why, and ask you why, and either way, you answer.

Lace around the collars of the blouses of the ladies,
Flowers from a Spanish friend of the family.
The embroidery of your life holds you in
and keeps you out, but you survive,
Imprisoned in your bones behind the isinglass windows of your eyes.

And in the night the iron wheels rolling through the rain,
Down the hills through the long grass to the sea;
And in the dark the heart bells ringing with pain,
"Come away, alone..."

Even now by the gate, with your long hair blowing,
And the colors of the day that lie along your arms.
You must barter your life to make sure you are living,
And the crowd that has come, you give them the colors,
and the bells and wind and the dream.

Will there never be a prince who rides along the sea and the mountains,
Scattering the sand and foam into amethyst fountains,
Riding up the hills from the beach in the long summer grass,
Holding the sun in his hands and shattering the isinglass?

Day and night, and day again, and people come and go away forever,
While the shining summer sea dances in the glass of your mirror.
While you search the waves for love and your visions for a sign,
The knot of tears around your throat is crystallizing into your design.

And in the night the iron wheels rolling through the rain,
Down the hills through the long grass to the sea,
And in the dark the heart bells ringing with pain,
"Come away, alone...with me..."

In my youth, foolish stripling that I was, I always knew there would be a prince...alas, there never has been and now never will, but I still love the song.

27. "New Slang" by The Shins.
Gold teeth and a curse for this town were all in my mouth.
Only, i don't know how they got out, dear.
Turn me back into the pet that i was when we met.
I was happier then with no mind-set.

And if you'd 'a took to me like
A gull takes to the wind.
Well, i'd 'a jumped from my tree
And i'd a danced like the king of the eyesores
And the rest of our lives would 'a fared well.

New slang when you notice the stripes, the dirt in your fries.
Hope it's right when you die, old and bony.
Dawn breaks like a bull through the hall,
Never should have called
But my head's to the wall and i'm lonely.

And if you'd 'a took to me like
A gull takes to the wind.
Well, i'd 'a jumped from my tree
And i'd a danced like the king of the eyesores
And the rest of our lives would 'a fared well.

God speed all the bakers at dawn may they all cut their thumbs,
And bleed into their buns 'till they melt away.

I'm looking in on the good life i might be doomed never to find.
Without a trust or flaming fields am i too dumb to refine?
And if you'd 'a took to me like
Well i'd a danced like the queen of the eyesores

28. Some of it gets lost in translation, I think, but...
"Let's give water to this cracked earth
We'll catch the rain with both hands
Drop by drop" -- Do as Infinity "Tooku Made"

"Even if there comes a time
When the whole world becomes our enemy
I'll protect you
So don't give up, my one flower" -- High and Mighty Color "Ichirin no Hana"

"Turn sorrow into kindeness,
your uniqueness into strenght,
it's okay to get lost so begin walking from here" -- little by little "Kanashimi wo yasashisa ni"

What can I say? I'm a dork

31. Fearless Love
(Dillon O'Brian)

Come my love
Come bravely to me
Let your heart be still
For our time
Has come my tender one
To be free of will

And fly
Blind on fearless love
Let them wild winds blow
We'll shine
On all we're fearful of
Then we'll let it go
Let it go

Skippin' stones
Across the great unknown
Safe at water's edge
Don't look down, baby
We're gonna leave this losin' town
And leap out from the ledge

And fly
Blind on fearless love
Let them wild winds blow
We'll shine
On all we're fearful of
Then we'll let it go
Let it go

32. Pink Floyd: On The Turning Away
On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden
And the words they say
Which we wont understand
Dont accept that whats happening
Is just a case of others suffering
Or youll find that youre joining in
The turning away

Its a sin that somehow
Light is changing to shadow
And casting its shroud
Over all we have known
Unaware how the ranks have grown
Driven on by a heart of stone
We could find that were all alone
In the dream of the proud

On the wings of the night
As the daytime is stirring
Where the speechless unite
In a silent accord
Using words you will find are strange
And mesmerized as they light the flame
Feel the new wind of change
On the wings of the night

No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
Its not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that therell be
No more turning away?

33. This one's pure poetry for me, my dear GoPsUx........
Goodnight, my angel
Time to close your eyes
And save these questions for another day
I think I know what you've been asking me
I think you know what I've been trying to say
I promised I would never leave you
And you should always know
Wherever you may go
No matter where you are
I never will be far away

Goodnight, my angel
Now it's time to sleep
And still so many things I want to say
Remember all the songs you sang for me
When we went sailing on an emerald bay
And like a boat out on the ocean
I'm rocking you to sleep
The water's dark
And deep inside this ancient heart
You'll always be a part of me

Goodnight, my angel
Now it's time to dream
And dream how wonderful your life will be
Someday your child may cry
And if you sing this lullabye
Then in your heart
There will always be a part of me

Some day we'll all be gone
But lullabyes go on and on...
They never die
That's how you
And I
Will be

35. Visions of Johanna, Bob Dylan
Ain't it just like the night to play tricks when you're tryin' to be so quiet?
We sit here stranded, though we're all doin' our best to deny it
And Louise holds a handful of rain, temptin' you to defy it
Lights flicker from the opposite loft
In this room the heat pipes just cough
The country music station plays soft
But there's nothing, really nothing to turn off
Just Louise and her lover so entwined
And these visions of Johanna that conquer my mind

In the empty lot where the ladies play blindman's bluff with the key chain
And the all-night girls they whisper of escapades out on the "D" train
We can hear the night watchman click his flashlight
Ask himself if it's him or them that's really insane
Louise, she's all right, she's just near
She's delicate and seems like the mirror
But she just makes it all too concise and too clear
That Johanna's not here
The ghost of 'lectricity howls in the bones of her face
Where these visions of Johanna have now taken my place

Now, little boy lost, he takes himself so seriously
He brags of his misery, he likes to live dangerously
And when bringing her name up
He speaks of a farewell kiss to me
He's sure got a lotta gall to be so useless and all
Muttering small talk at the wall while I'm in the hall
How can I explain?
Oh, it's so hard to get on
And these visions of Johanna, they kept me up past the dawn

Inside the museums, Infinity goes up on trial
Voices echo this is what salvation must be like after a while
But Mona Lisa musta had the highway blues
You can tell by the way she smiles
See the primitive wallflower freeze
When the jelly-faced women all sneeze
Hear the one with the mustache say, "Jeeze
I can't find my knees"
Oh, jewels and binoculars hang from the head of the mule
But these visions of Johanna, they make it all seem so cruel

The peddler now speaks to the countess who's pretending to care for him
Sayin', "Name me someone that's not a parasite and I'll go out and say a prayer for him"
But like Louise always says
"Ya can't look at much, can ya man?"
As she, herself, prepares for him
And Madonna, she still has not showed
We see this empty cage now corrode
Where her cape of the stage once had flowed
The fiddler, he now steps to the road
He writes ev'rything's been returned which was owed
On the back of the fish truck that loads
While my conscience explodes
The harmonicas play the skeleton keys and the rain
And these visions of Johanna are now all that remain

Forever Young by Alphaville...
Let us die young or let us live forever
We don't have the power but we never say never
Sitting in a sandpit, life is a short trip
The music's for the sad men

Here's the whole song:

Forever Young - Alphaville
Let's dance in style, let's dance for a while
Heaven can wait, we're only watching the skies
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst
Are you going to drop the bomb or not

Let us die young or let us live forever
We don't have the power but we never say never
Sitting in a sandpit, life is a short trip
The music's for the sad men

Can you imagine when this race is won
Turn our golden faces into the sun
Praising our leaders, we're getting in tune
The music's played by the madmen

CHORUS:
Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever
Forever -- and ever

Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later, they all will be gone
Why don't they stay young?

It's so hard to get old without a cause
I don't want to perish like a fading horse
Youth's like diamonds in the sun
And diamonds are forever

So many adventures couldn't happen today
So many songs we forgot to play
So many dreams swinging out of the blue
We'll let them come true

Bob Dylan....... A hard rains gonna fall

Oh, what'll you do now, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what'll you do now, my darling young one?
I'm a-goin' back out 'fore the rain starts a-fallin',
I'll walk to the depths of the deepest black forest,
Where the people are many and their hands are all empty,
Where the pellets of poison are flooding their waters,
Where the home in the valley meets the damp dirty prison,
Where the executioner's face is always well hidden,
Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten,
Where black is the color, where none is the number,
And I'll tell it and think it and speak it and breathe it,
And reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it,
Then I'll stand on the ocean until I start sinkin',
But I'll know my song well before I start singin',

And one by Bruce Springsteen

Hey little girl is your daddy home
Did he go away and leave you all alone
I got a bad desire
Im on fire

Tell me now baby is he good to you
Can he do to you the things that I do
I can take you higher
Im on fire

Sometimes its like someone took a knife baby
Edgy and dull and cut a six-inch valley
Through the middle of my soul

At night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet
And a freight train running through the
Middle of my head
Only you can cool my desire
Im on fire

38. Grapefruit
Grapefruit
A bathing suit
Chew a little juicy-fruit
Wash away the night

Drive-in
Guzzle gin
Commit a little mortal sin
It's good for the soul

And oh, it gets so damn lonely
When you're on the plane all alone
And if I had the money, Honey
I'd strap you in beside me
And never ever leave you
Leave you at home all alone and crying

Ten speed
No need
My pick-up gets me where I please
Chuggin' down the street
But I'll be leavin'
In a little while
So close your eyes and I'll
I'll be back real soon

Ladies choice
Everybody dance

Yes and if I had the money, Honey
I'd strap you in beside me (into strapless)
And never ever leave you
Leave you at home all alone and crying

Grapefruit
A bathing suit
Chew a little juicy-fruit
Wash away the night

Yeah, you chew a little juicy-fruit
It's good for your soul

I’m qualified to satisfy you
Anyway you want me to...

.....

When it comes to lovin’ you
No one could love you more
There’s no contest, I know I’m the best
‘Cause you’re all I’m livin’ for

I’m your man and you know I can
Make you feel the way you want to
Girl, just tell me whatever you need
And that’s what I’m gonna do

40. From "Girlfriend" by Walter Becker
I'm pullin' in a picture now
Up off my back pages
And all at once am privy to
The entire grim design
Of a great civilization
In the terminal stages
Of a slow but steady mental moral spiritual decline
And so it goes
And thus it is written
And all I want to know is
Where does a guy like me fit in?

41. I've always liked Bland Simpson's Follow You All Over the World
Especially when performed by Marti Jones

You spoke to me
Of your divided loyalty
And circumstantial fright
And blessings in disguise
And every pledge we made
Dissolved and then began to fade
Human error we agreed
It was a careless oversight

You woke me up
To say good-bye and wish me luck
In everything I did
With any other boy
And then you stopped at the door
Gave the look you know I adore
Said you expected me to
Follow you all over the world

Three weeks in Rome
In someone else’s summer home
In an unsophisticated time
We were foolish all the while
Well, we went to all the racy films
And you said, “get a load of them”
At the lovers on the screen
And all the lovers down the aisle
All my friends say “quit!”
They tell me I’ll get over it
But every time you call
My heart is in a whirl
I don’t care if you’re my weekend pal
I don’t care if I’m your sometimes gal
Wouldn’t hesitate to
Follow you all over the world

There’ll be no fading away
Long as you can call me your holiday

This has to be the best one yet
A singing telegram from you in Tibet
Did you really think I’d come?
Drop everything and run?
Well, it’s really much to far away
I couldn’t half afford it anyway
Meet me somewhere in between
’neath the cedar trees of Lebanon
And we’ll walk hand in hand
leave footprints in the burnin’ sand
While Beirut goes up
In the flames of war aswirl
But for us it’s just like before
I’m addicted and I’ve begged for more
Of your enticing me to
Follow you all over the world
I’m gonna follow you all over the world
I’m gonna follow you all over the world

42. Since I still appreciate you,

Let's find love while we may.
Because I know I'll hate you
When you are old and grey.

So say you love me here and now,
I'll make the most of that.
Say you love and trust me,
For I know you'll disgust me
When you're old and getting fat.
