2. You are approaching winter in Minnesota...
Go south!

Way south.

Costa Rica, Belize, Cuba, Brazil, Dominican Republic.

Get yourself to a friendly beach bar, watch the water, swim, flirt, gamble, drink, catch some rays, learn to dive, eat strange food, and relax.

Who knows, sign yourself on as crew on a sailboat and disappear.

Lots of opportunities out there.

5. Warm temperatures will kill me
I sweat profusely even at 75 degrees. Seems to get worse by the week, now...

Oh well.

So Switzerland may not be so bad after all... definitely less painful than Brazil!

9. Agreed. (From another NYCer)
Though I like Minnesota and have many cool friends from there....

A taste of the energy (and yes, cultural cooperation) of NYC would be invigorating, but I loooove visiting CA (Bay Area, yummy!) to enjoy some real humanist look-you-in-the-eye-without-judgement mellowness. You are lucky to be able to choose!

I'm lucky that my job involves travel...though not travel driven by my wishes. This week, for instance, I am in verrry-conservative Lubbock TX, and just today had to do a brief interview on a local FOX News station! I was biting my tongue not to blurt out something on air about "it" all.

Saturday, though, we go to Boston for two weeks...aaah....

Have fun on your trip, HypnoToad, no matter where! Don't forget to drop us a picture....;)

Also strongly endorse England, Vancouver, Montreal as well. A visit beyond our borders and all of the rah-rah would be quite refreshing.

3. Spare the jet fuel and exhaust and find something interesting locally or
if you Really must fly...I'll suggest Visby Sweden.

Of course that's a complete dart throw since I don't know what you'd find pleasant and interesting. :) But it's a place I've been that I never imagined going to before I found out I had to go and I ended up enjoying very much.

I stayed in the "old" part of town, and I mean old. :) It's a beautiful and interesting place. I've been to England, Italy and Sweden in Europe and if you'd asked me which of those places I would expect to enjoy the most I probably would've picked Italy. But it was Sweden that I enjoyed the most.

4. He can't visit Sweden.
He's already surrounded by ex-Vikings. It would be like traveling 8 hours to see distant relatives of everyone he just left behind. :)

is it hard to get around for an english speaking person, it's sad because i live in louisiana but i know only a few words of french and those i can't pronounce

i found paris quite easy to get around in, so if it's the same level of difficulty as paris i wouldn't have a problem, i have my phrase book and my patience

17. You'll find Montreal much easier than Paris.
Appear to try, however bad your French is, and 99.999% of the people will instantly take pity on you and switch to perfect or near-perfect English.

As long as you can say "Bonjour" and "Merci," you're good. Being able to greet and thank people in their native language, in almost any country, gets you pretty far.
