Redd Foxx was in a class unto himself.

1. Redd Foxx was a vaudeville performer, wasn't he?
I don't know but I gathered that from watching Sanford & Son. The way speaks in a shout and keeps facing the "audience," he must have been trained as a stage performer.

2. He did stand-up (nightclub act) for quite a while before Sanford .
I don't know if he had any formal training or not.

3. More of a comic, too late for vaudeville
His raunchy comedy albums were what made him a star. One of his more famous routines was about an unusual horse race where the winning horse was named "My Dick"

4. OK, I looked him up.
Born in 1922. A lot younger than I thought he was.

5. Yeah, he was playing a lot older in Sanford & Son
He was supposed to be around 65 in the show and he was more like 50 something.
