My business number is one number off from a restuarant....
...and I'm frequently getting calls for to go orders.

Should I go ahead and start taking them?

1. No, I've worked in food service.
If you did that, you would be an irredeemable asshole. Seriously.

2. I agree
I'm only being silly :bounce:

Nothing would be worse than having a crappy day at work, order your lunch, get there and they never heard of you.

20. There would be one thing worse...
being the employee that gets screamed at by the guy who didn't get his lunch.

3. Same here
It was a Chinese restaurant. I just looked up the number and told callers the correct one.

I decided to order from there once, considering I got quite a few calls every week. When I told them my phone number, and how I used to redirect their calls, they gave me a discount card, plus a couple of free dishes.

The food wasn't that great, as it turned out, and I never went back again.

5. Everybody is real polite too
Except one little girl who called today. She sounded scared to death when I asked her if she was trying to reach "Mr. Carl" and hung up. Must have been the guy's daughter.

with two numbers transposed as us. It's irritating and funny all at the same time. :hi:

7. My home number used to be one off from a popular lunch place...
And I must confess to taking orders and/or reservations a few times. But it was only to the asshats that insisted that they HAD dialed the right number and how DARE I suggest that they made a simple mistake. And, yeah- I felt bad about doing that to the employees of the restaurant because I'm sure the dumb-asses never were able to connect the dots. I evened it out by tipping VERY generously whenever I ate there....

You can imagine how much fun that was, especially late at night.

9. Our home number is one digit off from the local restaraunt..
since I live in a small town I knw most of the people who call, and they are usually really nice about the mistake. I did have one lady call once, and she insisted she called the right number so I took her order and called it into the restaraunt for her. It happens.

13. Our Phone Number is One Number Off A Radio Station
Number. We get phone calls all night and all day when they are giving concert tickets away. :grr: You would think their first clue would be the answering machine " Hello you have the _____ family, please leave a message after the beep. P.S. If you are trying to reach the radio station you have reached the WRONG number". They still leave a message...constantly. :eyes: LOL

14. My old number was almost the same as the local Wal-Mart
mine ended with 5050 and Wal-Mart was 6060, the worst thing was that Job Service was giving out MY number by accident, and I kept getting calls from people asking about a janitorial job. After the 10th time I considered fucking with these people, but then I thought that they had to go work that shitty job and by the grace of god that could have been me I just helped them out.

16. Growing up, our home phone # was one off from a small movie theater
It just got to where everyone in my family would see the signs for what was playing that week and we'd just tell people. They'd ask what the times were and we'd tell them they'd have to call the actual movie theater for those :)

22. My friend's number was one number off from the local Pizza Hut.
For a while, her voice mail included a message giving the correct number of PH to those who misdialed while trying to place an order!

I thought that was very considerate of her! :D

23. Makes you want to..doesn't it?
Our home number isn't anywhere near the pizza place's number. It's just their name at one time for one year was listed right before ours in the telephone booklet(yes it's that small) for our area. That's been maybe 15 yrs ago..and people still call here for pizza. They obviously never throw away their old booklets. Since we get a new one every year I can't imagine why they'd keep one so old or how it's lasted that long..but apparently several people still have them.
