Wow, The Black Dahlia was bad.
Really, really bad. However, I will say that it was filmed beautifully.

Don't bother. Really.

1. That's too bad
A lot of people have waited a long time for a movie about that, it's a shame if it really is terrible.

2. I was one of them.
The Ellroy novel is brilliant, and Brian De Palma can be brilliant, when he wants to be. But sadly, the movie is an incoherent mess. You are laughing at it a la Showgirls by the end, and that sucks. Especially since it has some of the most amazing shots I have ever seen in a film. It's freaking GORGEOUS. But very, very bad.

4. I was sad about it too.
Really, just for the cinematography, it's almost worth it. There is an amazing crane shot that would take too long to describe, but it took my breath away. But the rest is just laughable. I almost think it's destined to become a cult classic a la Mystery Science Theater.

5. I read the book about 6 years ago
and I don't remember it ending the way the movie did. As a huge fan of noir, I was disappointed--my advice would be to miss it if you can.

6. Me too.
I love noir. But this went beyond noir to cartoonish and then beyond that to being a hot mess. Blergh.

9. Go see "Hollywoodland"! A really good noir film
and I adore noir.

I guess I'll skip Dahlia. I was going to see it, just to compare and contrast it with "Hollywoodland." But now I won't bother.

Next on my list to see is "Little Miss Sunshine." I hear it is hilarious.

8. Wow, I had to look that one up.
Here is the blurb from Wikipedia:

She returned to television in the 1975 production of Who Is the Black Dahlia? playing infamous murder victim Elizabeth Short.

It doesn't take much to mess with my mind, though, when I'm watching TV late at night. :scared:
