Stop whining about the banner ad and go see it when it comes to a theater near you. Just....go see it. Hardcore blue-staters probably need to see it more than red-state-dwelling liberals (because y'all already know all about those holy rollers).

And Mike Papantonio (whom I have the pleasure of being acquainted with from my time in Pensacola) is my new personal hero. I already had immense respect for him, but he is the sole balance and sanity used to counter the nutcases in the movie. And it's nicely done, too.

3. yeah, this red stater is already too freaked.
I do want to see it though I'm afraid it will be so sad. Glad to hear there is a counter balance in the movie. I get enough freaky tude on a daily basis that going to the theater seems like a waste of time. Thanks for the review.

4. I'm going and taking my daughters.
I'm sure we'll have a great discussion afterwards too. They've both been raised as athiests but we're living in the "bible belt", so they are exposed to lots of kids who are terribly brainwashed.

5. I have a feeling that this movie...
will be able to do what every horror movie ever made has not been able to...which is scare the hell out of me, because that shit is real! I'd be interested in seeing it just for oppositional research purposes, but I doubt it will be playing around here. I'm sure it will turn up on the internet eventually and I'll catch it that way.

A little off topic, but have you ever seen the movie "The God Who Wasn't There"? It explores the world of the fundamentalists but from a perspective of a guy who left all that craziness behind. It's worth checking out

9. It's a documentary.
And anybody who doesn't take seriously the threat that the fundies pose to this country--a very real, very immediate threat--needs to see this movie. Should be REQUIRED to see this movie.

10. What I meant was I thought they really wanted to get people to GO to camps
Not that the camps themselves aren't real.

11. I know more about holy rollers than any movie could ever teach!
Trust me, if that is why you're recommending it, I don't need to waste my money.

Besides, the banner is so annoying that I wouldn't see it if you paid me to (well, unless it was a substantial amount of money)!

13. We went with some friends to see it
Texas Thought Criminal made an interesting observation. It started with mocking laughter from the audience, but about halfway through the movie it began to sink in how dangerous this is. After that, the laughter became hysterical monkey laughs. I grew up in a fundamentalist environment and I thought I knew how dangerous they are. I didn't. They are REALLY dangerous. Know your enemy.

15. No kidding.
These people mean business. They admire the kids in the middle east who
strap bomb belts on themselves. Becky Fisher wishes her klds had the
same kind of willingness to martyr themselves. It is so freaking
scary.

16. That was one of the most shocking things in the movie.
The undeniable awe in her voice when she talked about how the children are so willing to be martyrs--made chills run down my spine.

19. LOL--I certainly hope so.
And may it be a testament to how effective it actually is to advertise on DU (and bring in more advertisers for the admins, so they can keep things running).

20. Another scary comment in the movie:
And I think I was already aware of it, but in context of the movie, it was downright chilling. One of their leaders, Ted Haggart (who is one evil mofo), meets with Bush and his advisors via conference call every single week.
