i feel really bad about this
Edited on Mon Sep-25-06 09:03 PM by datasuspect
i don't know whether i should post this, given the often sensitive nature of people, but this mama kitty came and made a home in my friend's shop.

she had 3 kittens.

he has yard dogs, civil enough, but they are predators. i tried to hide these babies, and keep them out of the dogs' path. until i could get them out of there.

but the german shepherd got one. the one kitten got out of the box i made for it.

she killed him.

i really do love cats. this is seriously fucking with me. he died in my hands.

i buried him.

i had my sister pick up the mama kitty and the other two babies.

damn.

the worst part is i discovered them this morning, and they were playing and feeding and i got instantly attached. i feared that the dogs might do something. i feel really guilty, because i should have got them out of there sooner.

Something like 99% of all dogs and cats don't live to see their first birthday anyway. My dogs have killed a chicken, a duck, a raccoon, one of my rabbits, a snake...I witnessed them kill the raccoon. It's an awful think to have happen but the kitten is in a much better place than this. It wasn't your fault, accidents happen, and you were trying which is more than what a lot of people do. Animals meet some very inhumane deaths on this planet, and most of the time when they are killed by dogs like this the dog just snaps the neck. It's really very quick. If that is what happened and it was still breathing it was probably agonal and the kitten was already gone. Don't beat yourself up over it.

3. his neck was snapped
eyes all spacey, but still crying.

cats are really the only domestic animal i have affection for and they instantly melt my blackened heart. i've watched human beings die in front of me and that never affected me like this did today.

i guess its because they can't help themselves and are completely defenseless.
