Radio Lady's Decision of the Day -- "Man of the Year" screens tonight!
Edited on Mon Sep-25-06 02:40 PM by Radio_Lady
Should we venture into to downtown Portland to see this?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230030341925&category=60334#ebayphotohosting

Publicist's preview:

What would happen if one of the nation's funniest men became its leading one? Oscar winner Robin Williams reunites with the director of "Good Morning Viet Nam" to answer just that question in the comic tale of an entertainer's accidental rise to power, "Man of the Year."

(snipped here...)

"Man of the Year" is directed by Barry Levinson and also stars Christopher Walken, Laura Linney, Jeff Goldblum and Lewis Black. Rated PG-13 for language, sexual references, drug-related material (YAY!), and brief violence. The film opens wide on Friday, October 13, 2006.

Yes or no? I could stay home and fold clothes or????

3. I don't know - the trailer features one of the oldest political jokes ever
Edited on Mon Sep-25-06 02:37 PM by Richardo
...told as if it were edgy and new...

If that's really one of the high points, then you're in trouble.

6. Oldest political joke? I've seen the trailer several times -- what's
the joke? Now, I'll have to pay attention.

You're leaving the decision up to me?

9. OK. Got that joke. You vote that I should stay home and do something
more useful!

But it is such a beautiful day in Portland! The last of summer... in the 80s... we could walk around before the flick.

I'll put you down as a "NO".

By the way, I don't remember hearing that joke before.

Don't get me wrong - you don't have to do anything *useful*
God forbid.

I just vote 'no' on the movie.

20. OK. You can just think about Robin Williams as president -- until
October 13th (when it opens in theaters) or October 31st (Hallowe'en) -- or November 7th (Election Day 2006) -- or not at all, whatever you wish!

Richardo, thanks for the comments!

4. Robin Williams, Christopher Walken and Lewis Black...
do you need three better reasons??

(and the trailer is a SCREAM... GO! GO!)

8. Yes, they're good actors, all right. But then again... the script
Edited on Mon Sep-25-06 03:37 PM by Radio_Lady
could suck bigtime.

Well, I'll put you down as a YES. The best part of this is I DON'T HAVE TO COOK -- we'll eat at the Food Court (not great food, but veggies and rice are OK for me.)

Thanks for your comments, Rosco T., and good to meet you at the DU!

12. I doubt the script will suck for three reasons...
.. one, let's face it, it's topical, 'conventional' politicians getting skewered

.. two, it's Robin Williams, I get some of the feelings from "Good Morning Vietnam" watching the trailer that he's gonna have improved a LOT of the sthick on this, and when he gets wound up.. oy...

.. three, putting Lewis Black and Robin Williams in the same scenes is like tickling the tail of the dragon (obscure nuke research reference) watching to see how close they can get to each other before critical comedy mass explodes.

Bonus reasons: Christopher Walken, Barry Levinson (see "Good Morning Vietnam").

15. Yes, I follow your thinking and agree completely...
Lewis Black is pretty funny, especially that thing he does with his eyes!

Did you see the movie poster?

13. I'd go if I could
If I lived in Portland, and could get a babysitter, and didn't have a million things to do before my wife goes into labor....I'd be there. heh.

14. I'd take you if I could! But that "honey-do" list is pretty formidable!
Wife going into labor? Good luck with that!

A couple who live near here -- our acquaintances -- the wife is going in for a Caesarian section Tuesday (tomorrow). She's having a girl! They already have a five-year-old boy!

17. She's week to week now
She's huge though, and could go any day now, according to the midwife.

We're hoping number 2 holds off for a couple more weeks though because his big sister is having her 2nd birthday party a week from Saturday. Once we get past that we're open to anytime.

16. I vote "yes"
We're seeing this movie when it comes out because Robin Williams and Lewis Black, two of the funniest men in the world, are in it.

18. UPDATE: I saw the film tonight, but there is a little hitch about review.
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 01:16 AM by Radio_Lady
I have to get permission to post a review early.

This film is scheduled to open nationwide on October 13th -- I'll be away on vacation that week, so look for the review around Thursday evening, October 5th. You'll still have a week and a day to decide.

Thanks for all the comments. Hint: Hubby and I had a lot of laughs together tonight!

The film was shot in Canada, and this film fan followed the crew with updates from last year. Interesting and background information, if that's what you need to decide.

My full review will be posted a week before the movie actually opens -- because of vacation commitments.

Look for the review on Thursday, October 5th. It will open nationwide on October 13.

Thanks, WC -- Your views are always welcome.
