Spicy Foods
Does anyone like spicy foods, or have an opinion to share about them?

Yesterday I asked my mom to get some "spicy nacho" flavored doritos from the party store. she came back with "fiery habanero" flavored doritos, after trying a few it would seem that nuclear would be a more fitting word then fiery.

1. Wow...you're a spicy foods wimp.
Those things are definitely less than fiery. I was very disappointed.

2. snack foods arn't supposed to be that spicy
your supposed to eat a bunch of them one after the other, not like a buffolo wing sandwich(which was good other then the fact that the sause started soaking into the bun making the bun absoultly revolting from a taste and texture standpoint)

4. Like I said, you're a spicy food wimp.
Those things weren't fiery. I can eat much spicier food one after the other.

16. Are those wimpy?
I was curious after seeing the ads. I like really spicy foods too, but now you've got me thinking I probably won't be impressed.

3. "Spicy" is a very inexact word.
To some people, spicy means any spice of any kind, no matter how little in the food. For others, the blowtorch effect is more desirable.

I never thought I could find food that was too spicy for me.

I was wrong.

5. "Spicy" is a subjective term.
What's spicy to you might be mild to someone else. Or vice versa. :)

I love intensely hot and spicy food; when I eat Thai food, I order it extra spicy, and at the restaurant we normally go to, they KNOW both my husband and I can take it! In fact, both of us usually put more hot sauce on the food when it arrives. :P It's excellent that way, and our sinuses are cleaned out.

I don't want chemical burns, so I draw the line at that intensity, but I'll eat hot food otherwise! :hi:

7. The guys at the Indian restaurant I get take out from told me
I'm one of the only white customers that orders my food spicy. Yeah, it definitely clears out my sinuses, which is good because they're pretty fucked up normally.

13. Sounds like you and I would get along fine with our spicy food preferences
:9 Actually, the Indian restaurant not far from our house has good food, and the first time we went there was right after they opened. When we said we wanted spicy, they quizzed us on just exactly how spicy we wanted it, because they were not used to Caucasian people ordering it that spicy. I said, "Give us your hottest spicy. We can take it!" The waiter had a weird look on his face, and I saw him standing off to the side as we first tasted the food. It was delicious and spicy and just right. :) I think he breathed a sigh of relief when we were OK with it.

8. We've got a lot of spicy food in Texas....
Mexican, Cajun/Creole--& good old Soul Food, which usually has serious bite from black pepper & cayenne. Newer offerings include the cuisines of Thailand & India. Texans might be more adapted to spicy foods than Midwesterners.

But when I see Habanero, I proceed with extreme caution. Learn about The Scoville Scale!

10. You should amend the sentence.....
"Texans might be more adapted to spicy foods than Midwesterners."..to....

"Some Texans might be more adapted to spicy foods than some Midwesterners."

I lived in Houston. The line to get in the Olive Garden is just as long in Texas as it is in Peoria.

That said, the food in Houston is delicious. It's hard to get a bad meal there.

12. also known as the Scotch Bonnet pepper, in the Caribbean
The first dish I ever sent back for being too spicy, and the last, actually: jerk chicken at a Jamaican place, and I love jerk chicken. Pure pain, and I have a high tolerance level.

The reality is that there are many interesting different spice flavors in the world, and chile is only one of them. It is easy to overwhelm and kill the other flavors with too much heat.

My favorite is Thai, where lemon grass, ginger, cilantro, thai basil, or lime are combined with chili, in something like grilled shrimp, or mussels.

my sister makes habanero-spiced pistachio nuts. They're called "Hell in a Nutshell" and they're fabulous.

14. I learned my lesson!
I've always been kind of a spicy food snob...always believing that nothing could be "too spicy" for me. I went to the annual bar-b-Q ROundup in Cedar Rapids a couple of years ago (I likes my barbque spicy!) and I got a sandwich from a vendor from New Jersey. I even scoffed "What do they know about barbque in New Joisy?" as I pumped on the inferno sauce. Well the first bite showed me! I screamed from the burn and wound up with blisters on my lips and tongue. That cured me fast. My husband still teases me about it.

15. I love spicy food
tonight's supper is Morrocan chicken stew and I do a lot of Indian and Thai cooking. What I DON'T like is when the spice is so overpowering that it burns out your taste buds. Some heat is great (even a lot of heat in some cases) but not at the expense of not being able to enjoy the flavor.

18. Mmm...spicy!
Yes!

I love spicy Thai food, fresh salsa with scads of sweat-inducing peppers...oh yeah.

I have a buddy of mine who has a pepper garden and he makes his own blend--great stuff for near-death-experience chili!!
