48. You're from Jamestown?? I went to college in Fredonia in the early 80's.
I remember seeing 10,000 Maniacs playing at a Dance Marathon when Natalie was 17 years old.

I wrote a letter to the Maniacs around 1986 and I received a hand written response from Natalie. I still have it somewhere.

I have a cousin that went to Fredonia, probably later 80s. I haven't been back for a couple of years, as I no longer have family there, but still think of Jamestown as my hometown.

51. yeah, I loved that gypsy theme.
I saw Nancy on something recently and she really really looks good and can still rock out. Ann is still battling her weight but her voice is in great shape. They really saved my sanity growing up. Roger Fisher was a great guitarist, he has a website and I went and signed his guestbook last year some time. I wish they had been given more credit. Ann was almost as influential as Debbie Harry but I feel like her influence has been overlooked for some reason.

I used to have this huge stack of pictures that my uncle took of them and Fleetwood Mac; he was a photographer and used to go see those two bands all the time. I had a bunch of them backstage after a concert and they both (Ann and Nancy) look completely wasted; my uncle said they were on quaaludes but I don't know how he would know. I don't know what happened to my pics of them, they disappeared, which really upset me because I had tons of Stevie Nicks in just about every different witchy outfit she ever had. I think it was around the time of Dreamboat Annie and Rumors.

86. Circa _Dreamboat Annie_ and _Little Queen_
I think Ann Wilson is very attractive, and would qualify as a rock-star crush for me if I could time-travel. (I wasn't born at the time the two albums were released!) I didn't find her eighties look (mostly the different hair, clothes, and make-up) very flattering for her and it changed her appearance significantly.

92. they got sold a line of bull in the eighties
they lost just about all their band members and a producer told Ann that her singing style was too strong, and she needed to dial it back, which was bullshit. They took the Jefferson Starship route and listened to the idiot producers and totally sold themselves out. There was room for them to be who they were...but they were too scared I guess. If you watch the video I linked above Ann's singing is just so effortless to be that powerful, I always loved her voice, and for someone to tell her to sing like a pop princess, i.e. someone who by definition can't sing, just pisses me off every time I think about it. Nancy doesn't have a very powerful voice so her singing like that, like she did on 'These Dreams' is fine, but Ann has one of the most powerful voices rock and roll has ever seen, and they completely squashed her and devalued her and that is when the weight gain started not coincidentally.

Everyone looked that way in the eighties. It was kind of a K-mart/redneck take on the eurotrash look the new wave bands had. In truth, only the new wave/alternative bands should have been allowed to dress that way. Everyone else should have just stuck to doing what they were doing before and the whole music business would have been alot better off. I don't know why these producers think that everyone needs to change their style every five minutes. Ann was such a goddess and they just about ruined her.

We would carry around notebooks in which we would write outrageous stories about girl singers (ahem) who would open for you-know-who. We used to have some quarrel over who would "get" Paul, so we started listening to the Beach Boys -- there were five of them -- and the stories got even more bizarre.

And it's funny that you said "second-best," because that describes my crush to a T. My older sisters got "dibs" on who would have a crush on whom (how does THAT work? well, it made sense at the time), and one of my sisters liked Donny Osmond, while the other liked David Cassidy. I liked David, too, but he was "taken," so I picked Bobby. Lol!

the only one who liked Ringo?

My sister had a major crush on him, and didn't know anyone else who did...

91. I saw Ringo on the street one day, with his wife
Very surreal.

An industrial area near a small Chinese restaurant where we just had lunch. The door pops open on what looks like a warehouse next store, and out walks Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach, and they stroll on down the street. Nobody else around.

93. He's so fucking cool. He was at a Boston Hospital a few years
ago (I think it was Children's-he does an ad for it in this area) because his daughter had a brain tumor and was being treated there. Evidently, her surgery was a huge success and it was reported that Ringo was so ecstatic, he ran around the hospital buying candy out of vending machines and passing it out to the patients there.

I love it that he's the peacemaker between the other Beatles. Wish he'd grow his hair out a little, tho. Hate that shaved look.

75. Wowzers, hard to decide
Here was my crush before I hit 10 years old.

And here was my early teens love:

And though it's now more of an adult "appreciation" than a crush, he's still a hottie:

she was so in shape, I think she was gorgeous.

Actually this is much better than I remember it. They just absolutely did not know what to do with Lita.

87. Michelle Branch
She's the first one I can think of; I've had a thing for her since I saw her first music video several years back. Maybe she's more "pop" than "rock" but, either way, she's crush-worthy.

She has some, um, "hotter" pictures out there, but I think this one's really pretty:

I also really like her Wreckers mate, Jessica Harp.

I don't know if Debbie Gibson would be considered rock, but she was my first crush on a music star. Now among the popular artists I like Michelle & Jessica, Andrea Corr, Anna Nalick, the Dixie Chicks, and Nina Gordon, to name some. Singers like Joanna, Cindy Alexander, and Leslie Mills are big crushes, but they aren't stars yet.

I also have things for Amy Lee, Lisa Loeb, and Joan Jett, among others.
