Poll question: Blinking Christmas lights: Tacky?
Edited on Mon Dec-22-03 09:18 PM by DinoBoy
This is inspired by some comments in this thread. Most people aparently don't think colorful lights are tacky, but what about blinking lights?

1. adding a little nuance...
A little twinkling now and then is okay.

"Chase" lights are ALWAYS tacky and remind me of cheap used car lots, liquor stores, and crummy movie theaters.

2. I think that'll be my theme next year
instead of bulbs on the tree, multi colored fuzzy dice.

4. uh oh
I love to see a natural pine tree with very small blinking white lights; perhaps some popcorn strung around the tree as well...the new puppy gets hungry!

5. New puppy?
Welcome to DU, Clark. Now tell us about the puppy. We DUers love our pets. A photo would be very nice also.

7. We went driving around again tonight, looking at lights.
We noticed an apparent lack of Christmas spirit in most of the neighborhoods where the home prices exceed $175,000 (that's alot of house in Texas). In the poorer neighborhoods ($50,000-$150,000), most of the houses had some sort of outdoor decorations up.

Possibilities (and gross generalities):
The poor folk like to share more
The poor folk are strong on their faith and like to show it
The poor folk foolishly spend their money on seasonal decorations
The wealthier folks are already out of town for the holidays
The wealthier folks are not of the Christian faith, or any faith
The wealthier folks work all the time and don't have time for no stinkin' Xmas lights

Any other ideas?

8. I like them because they are tacky.
The whole white light thing is a little too Martha Stewart for me.
