Please help!!! What does this dream mean?
Someone just asked me at lunch:

She drops a cup (which she said is empty) and the handle breaks off, but she can still use it. And, she said she still wants the cup....

I told her I think it might mean she doesn't have control over something. To which, she replied, "There are a lot of things in my life I have no control over."

Anybody else have any ideas? I told my in-law I'd look it up for her on the internet, but so far I haven't found anything about dream interpretations and broken cups!

Thanks!

sounds good. i was thinking that perhaps there is something in her life which is bringing her joy, a situation/person she has accepted, regardless of any perceived negatives.

5. Hey, that could be
Sort of like...to keep her family in tact, she has to accept that it's somewhat broken? Because, I think that would be right on! Thanks! :hi:

8. I agree with you
Doesn't quite have a handle on something. Feeling like she might lose control, but she is just holding on for now.

13. The type of dream interpretation I learned
is to "be" each part of the dream and ask it what it wants. In this case, she should try to play each part in her mind like the cup, the handle, herself (in the dream) and see what each part is feeling and thinking. This method of looking at dreams assumes that each part of the dream is a different part of the person who needs integration into the whole person.

17. I thought about that...
..but it's a scary thought...to have part of herself "break off." I don't know about that...in this case. But, I will let her know. Thank you very much!

19. It's usually not as scary as it sounds.
That part may have it's own reasons for wanting to be apart, then you negotiate between the different parts to reach an integration.
It's never literal of course, that's what great about dreams.
I've had some very scary dreams that were very helpful when looked at this way...not scary after all.

She has a deep seated, neurotic fear of burning her fingers on a cup of hot beverage

Hey, it's been 26 years since I got my psych degree...how much of a quality analysis did you expect?

Unless it repeats along a theme, it is most likely just random.

31. Freak all?
Hmm. Not a random dream, rather a reoccurring one. Usually, from what I understand, they do mean something or the other...the mind is trying to problem solve when we have dreams.

33. Oh - I didn't realise it was recurring!
Yeah, that means it is important.

Problem solving you say? Not really the impression I got - the model I prefer is that important things in the subconscious are likely to be set off by the random wanderings that are normally in dreams

The cup, is like a metaphor for the gayness!

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Could it be that when something is broken (relationship maybe), she limps on through as if everything is okay, rather than fixing or discarding it?
