Thats right I said Death and Dying class . That is a Monday,Wednesday,Friday class at Missouri Southern State University. The class is packed and has a mile long waiting list. There are people that have said they are willing to stand in the classroom just to take it. it is one of the hottest classes on campus. Boy! Some of the stuff they teach huh?

Had to come up with 12 different ways that have been use for execution. have to write my own obit. that I would want to have put in the newspaper. And we have a field trip to a mortuary coming up.

7. Huh. Is it a psych class?
Could be a Kubler-Ross text, I guess.

Interesting idea. Now that I think about it, it could be lit, psych, or bio. (As long as it's not a "how-to" thing!)

8. I'm not surprised it's popular.
It's something we all have to face, and it compels all sorts of reactions, from relief to terror to indifference. Such a class would be one way to explore one's personal feelings about the subject... and more... writing your own obit would have you thinking about the way you've lived, too. Sounds fascinating.

9. I took that class at Seattle University.
Edited on Sat Sep-23-06 05:05 PM by SeattleGirl
It was a great class, actually; quite interesting.

The morning the Challenger blew up, the director of a local funeral home was scheduled to come in and talk to us. As you can imagine, the entire hour was taken up by what had happened with the Challenger. I do think, though we were of course all still in shock at the end of the class, that it did help us to deal with it.

10. We are such a death-denying culture.........
I see this sort of class as a very good thing!

The more we can talk about death and dying, the better off we'll be......

We'll get used to the idea that we all will die, and then we might be able to face it with some shred of dignity.......

What a concept: dignity!

Not the way the Terri Schiavo case was conducted........:puke:

Congrats to you for taking it...and to anyone who has! :yourock:

16. Thanks!
Believe it or not it is a very uplifting class.Looking at death like that makes it seem different. It is not so dark and final. It becomes more down to earth, less unknown.

11. The best place on campus to pick up goth girls/guys
I'm guessing. If there is still such a thing, which last time I checked, goth died at least a decade ago.

17. Yipes! That is a subject I don't want to think about.
I mean, we all have to think about it sooner or later, but I'd rather it be later. The experiences I have had with death and dying don't make me want to relive them....

Everyone told me how much I'd love that show, Six Feet Under. I saw about five minutes and had to turn the channel.

18. I do admit it is not for the faint of heart.
We have a person in the class right know that is terminally ill and gives us an insight on the study like no other class has ever had.

19. That's an elective at my school!
Only they call it "What Are Old People For?", which has to be one of the most amusing names I've heard for a class.

22. I wouldn't know...
If I end up taking it, it'll only be my senior year (the next one), when I'll have enough open periods to stock up on blow-off classes. Good luck to you, though. I wouldn't want to study infant death either!

20. But of Course!!
That's the curse. The price we pay for our intellect is knowing that we've all got it coming. If there's anything every human shares it's that thought.
