Nearly got called "un-American" today.
I work with a terrific young man at the clinic. He's from Nicaragua, is an ex-gang-member from a barrio in L.A. and is blazingly smart. He always asks me to keep him up to speed on current affairs. Today, he asked me about the whole torture, Geneva Conventions, Bush-trying-to-circumvent-the-law thing. I gave him a pretty good, comprehensive run-down on the situation, emphasizing that Bush is trying to indemnify himself from possible future prosecution for war crimes.

Just then, some girl wandered by (I think she works at the dental clinic next door) and asked "Is this an anti-America talk?"

I said: "No, it's an anti-Bush talk. It's not the same thing." She started to wander away again. I called after her: "Anyone calls me un-American gets my Gulf War medals jammed up the kiester!"

She just kind of said "...oh...okay..."

Guess she hadn't figured on dissent being patriotic. Typical.

2. My dear Aristus!
Good for you, sweetie!

I normally choke up at those moments......and forget the salient points too!

I'll bet she treats you with more respect after this....

:patriot:

:yourock:

Nice to see you.......

3. I hope she's enlightened
by the encounter, Aristus (though I find myself bristling at the word "patriotic"...in a general sense, not specifically in regards to the US). :hi:

4. she reminds me of the dental hygenists
okay, no offence to any DUers that are dental hygenists (those people that clean your teeth at the dentist or whatever)

that cleaned my teeth for like 5-6 years *shudders*....they would always ask you stupid questions while their hands were in your mouth, so if you tried to answer them, it would be like:

"What grade are you in?"
"uhImm yin yanth yrade" or something

5. Careful, t-t. My wife is a dental hygienist. I think this girl was just a
dental assistant. Probably not very bright, possessing a soft-focus, Paris Hilton-level of brain-power. And she believes what she's told to believe. Also not much spine to show to someone willing to defend himself and his beliefs.
