I'm new to this gun thing. Or not, if it's not considered a gun.

I didn't have to get a permit to buy it.

I was speaking more politically, anyway. Like, can I put the "cold, dead hands" bumpersticker on my car now?

I don't really know the answer, but what the hell...go put the bumpersticker on your car now. You could kill something with that thing.
