To my Lounge friends, re: the positive prayers, thoughts, etc.
Edited on Fri Sep-22-06 01:52 PM by SeattleGirl
that I requested.

They worked, though when you read what I am initially going to say, you might not see it that way, but what I know is that sometimes a positive outcome does not look like we may think it should.

Yesterday, I lost my job. I've been struggling for about the past six months or so, mainly because of things that are not related to my job at all, but were taking a toll on it. My supervisor, the company owner, and the two QC managers were nothing if not fabulous through this whole thing, and were understanding and did what they could to help. And while I had been doing better of late. there was just too much residual crap floating around, and frankly, I felt that I was never really going to get away from it in staying with this particular company (which, btw, is a great company).

Yesterday, when I went into the meeting with my supervisor, I really felt all of you around me. When my supervisor told me that they had decided it was best to let me go, I was not upset, I was not angry, and I did not freak out. In fact, I felt that a huge (or is that hugh??11!1?) weight had been taken from my shoulders. I'm not saying I was happy at being terminated; I'm just saying that I did not feel it was a negative. I had a wonderful talk with my supervisor, and I feel fine.

Within two hours of that meeting, I had preliminary interviews with two people I know very well in my industry, and have another interview this afternoon with the owner of one of those companies. The person at the other company would hire me in a New York minute, but it's a very large company, so she has to do the Connie Corporate Dance first. I also have a couple of other people at other companies to call. My industry is rather small, generally speaking, and very specialized, and pretty much everyone has moved around at least once or twice to other companies, so we all know a lot of people in the field. Unless someone is a total idiot, no one burns bridges, including me, so those contacts are very valuable in times such as this.

So, I'm fine. And truly, I am not freaked out, or worried, or scared. I have some pay coming to me for work I will have done over the last week and a half, plus two weeks' severance pay. And I believe I will have a new job within a week, if not sooner.

I want to thank all of you who sent me your prayers, your good vibes, positive thoughts, white light, etc. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you. You guys truly some of the very best people I've ever met, always willing to be there for a fellow DUer.

With much love, and a grateful heart. :loveya:  :loveya:  :loveya:  :loveya:

61. I agree, it's usually a shock.
I was let go from another job years and years ago, and I totally freaked. Fortunately, I found another job quickly, but it was not a pleasant experience, being let go. This times just feels different; it feels freeing.

4. My dear SeattleGirl..........
Aw, sweetie......sometimes as you say, things that don't look all that great at first turn out to be really OK.........

I was terminated from a job once, long ago......and while it was hard at the time, it did open the door to a job that I was truly good at, and thrived doing......

I am sure you will do well, and I am glad that you felt so comfortable with us that you were willing and able to tell us your story....

We've got your back, you know......always!

I love you too....sweetie........:loveya:  :loveya:

11. Darlin' Peggy.
It's true that when one door closes, another opens. I called my mom after my meeting yesterday, and she told me that the other day, when she went into the mini-mart to pay for her gas, the woman behind the counter was a woman who used to work at the same hospital my mom did. Mom was head of her union at the time, and though she tried, mom couldn't stop this woman's termination.

When the woman noticed my mom, she thanked her. Mom said, "But I wasn't able to save your job." The woman said that it was the best thing that happened to her. She did not like her job at the hospital, but wasn't trying to find a new job. Getting fired MADE her have to get out and get a new one. Now, working at a mini-mart would not be my cup of tea, but for this woman, it works very well. She told mom that her life had been so much better since getting out of a job she did not like. So, sometimes the "bad" really isn't, huh?

I don't dislike the work I do; I really like it. But again, sometimes a geographical cure can be the best thing.

Thank you so much, my friend, for all your love and support. :loveya:  :loveya:

8. blessing come in all disguises
when I got laid off, it allowed me the time to refresh, regroup, refocus and reinvent myself. It was the best thing in the world. Next month, I will embark on a new course of study and I am really excited about it.
Best wishes to you. I'm glad that you are feeling so positive. It will help you in your future endeavors.

13. I love that, Katina.
I'm looking forward to this next week. I have some things that need taking care of around the house, and I can focus on that. And at the end of the week, I'm going to go visit one of my sisters and my wonderful nephew. I feel that I will be starting a new job the week after that, so yes, blessings indeed do come in all disguises.

62. My Offer Still Stands
 I mean it, just let me know and I will be there with bells on! My phone number is in the PM I last sent you.

For others in this thread: Sometimes a friend is in a place where they have this stuff in their lives that just keep getting worse ~ and I am talkin' about stuff like that closet where every time you open it, everything falls out, or that office you wish you could organize, but it is just too much and you are too tired, so the papers pile up to the ceiling and the dust gets in the corners where you can't reach it anymore, or that garden that needs attention, the weeds are taking over and the worse it gets, the more you put it off, know what I'm talkin' about? So often we assume we are "supposed" to accomplish these things by ourselves when it is a good thing to have friends who can help you get it accomplished.

I was telling SG that my grandmother had friends who helped each other with those sorts of things - you know those daunting jobs that like canning all those green beans you harvested, planting a truck garden, painting a room, those things. As a child, I always loved hanging out with them when this happened because there was always a great deal of laughter and comraderie and when the dust settled a whole lot of work was done to boot. They'd potluck a lunch so at the break it was time to eat, laugh and plan what to do next. It was definitely a "bonding time" for women. Well, I thought perhaps SG might need some help and offered to help. She says she does need her office reorganized and I cannot think of a better way to give someone a send off starting a new job than to help with getting things spick and span and in order, can you?

So, those of us who are nearby could start with SG and then maybe someone else in the group needs something done with help we can do that too another time. It can be a way to meet as well as get some daunting things done as a boost. Whaddya say girls? You in? I would LOVE to meet you all and if SG would let us help, it would be fun!

PM me and lets see if we can figure out if this would work, k?

Love

From Booklist:

Everyone loves a comeback, and sometimes "failure" is the best education. That is the theme of this collection of interviews with 28 successful and famous people from all walks of life who, at one time or another, have been fired. Career and business writer Mackay shows a remarkable ability to get highly visible people to open up and reveal their dark past. He begins with a conversation with Donald "You're Fired!" Trump, who never actually lost a job per se but came back from being billions in debt for perhaps the greatest personal rebound in financial history. Bernie Marcus was fired from a job as manager of the Handy Dan Home Improvement Center, a chain of 66 stores, but he ultimately extracted sweet revenge by founding Home Depot. Mackay gets an amazing interview with Muhammad Ali, who lost his title when he chose to become a conscientious objector during the Vietnam War. It is surprising to learn the difficult beginnings of such notables as Robert Redford, Larry King, Billie Jean King, and Michael Bloomberg...
