Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood beat Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco to put Europe 2.5-1.5 up after the fourballs.

Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk had overcome Colin Montgomerie and Padraig Harrington to give the US early hope.

But Spaniards Garcia and Jose Maria Olazabal saw off David Toms and Brett Wetterich to aid Europe's cause.
