Help with Video Downloader (Firefox extension)
Another DUer recently posted a link to a YouTube video of "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised", something I'd been trying to locate for almost a year now. I successfully saved to my HD, using that above mentioned Video Downloader. I have a smartphone (Treo 700p) that's supposed to handle certain standard video formats. I'd like to load that video (as well as others) into that phone, getting another SD card as necessary. A websearch turned up an application by Applian that would seem to do the job of converting .flv files to others. $30 isn't all that steep, especially if I might end up using it fairly frequently, but if anyone knows of a public domain program, I'd like to give it a try first.

1. I checked http://sourceforge.net/ and came up blank..
Grab the avi:

Getting that converted shouldn't be a problem. And that is a link to torrents. Ask if you don't know what that is. I should be awake for awhile..

6. I could never get Bit Torrent to work for me.
A friend suggested that my router may be the problem, and indeed, it began giving me problems elswehere. I've since scrapped it and replaced it with another router (it gets very good reviews at Amazon). Had that video been available as a DVD, I'd have gladly bought it, just to get a more high-res version.

I'll try Bit Torrent again later; perhaps this evening. Thanks for your kind offer. I may try to contact you later on.

2. I think MPlayer will do it
If you happen to have a Linux box handy. I'm sure there are Windows/Mac alternatives, but I can't name one offhand.

3. Mplayer works on the Mac and Pc.
It will play it, just not convert it.

8. I didn't realize MPlayer wasn't Linux only
So, if it runs on Windows and Mac, it should be able to convert on Windows and Mac. I use it to convert files from time to time. You just need to dig into the command line switches.

Here's the application I was referring to: http://www.applian.com/replay-converter/support/user_guide.php I'll wait a few more days and will probably go with that one.

BTW: Here's that YouTube video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5832390545689805144&q=chavez It's well worth watching, and even saving a copy on your HD.

On edit: OOPS!! I just checked, and that .flv file is about 5.5MB in size! Even if there were a memory card that large for my Treo, I wouldn't even consider it. But the idea of stuffing these video clips into my smartphone is still appealing. And most are far smaller.

7. Correction to above.
I don't know what I was thinking about when I checked that Chavez file, but it's really "only" 267MB in size. There's plenty of room on my 1GB SD card. If it plays okay, I may get a 2GB card just for such videos. The screen is somewhat small, but it's really quite brilliant and readable.

5. Try this one
SUPER © Simplified Universal Player Encoder & Renderer.
It should be able to do it. I use it to convert flv's to avi.
