Late-night bar quotation from Robert "Dawg" Williams, estimable bass player in my band in Houston, way, WAY back in the 1970s.

34. Not to mention the estimable Winston Churchill, when a woman accused him
of being drunk:

(Her): "I believe, sir, that you are drunk."

(W.C.): "Yes, Madam, I am indeed drunk. And you, madam, are ugly. However, I will be sober in the morning, whereas you will still be ugly."

...House of Commons. Winston and she had a famously confrontational relationship. On one occasion they had the following exchange:

Astor: If you were my husband, I'd poison your sherry.
Churchill: If you were my wife, I'd drink it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tequila
Tequila is a distilled alcoholic beverage made primarily in the area
surrounding Tequila, a town in the western Mexican state of Jalisco,
65 km from Guadalajara. It is made from the blue agave tequilana weber
plant (also called Maguey by the local people), part of lily family,
which is native to Mexico. Most common tequilas are
38% to 40% alcohol (76 to 80 proof).

32. No, Tequila doesn't have a worm. Ewwwww.

A bottle of Mexican Mezcal bought in Cancun.
A worm can be seen in the bottom of the bottle.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mescal

Mezcal is a Mexican distilled spirit made from the agave plant.
There are many different types of agaves, and each produces a
slightly different mezcal. Agave is part of the Agavaceae family,
also called maguey. While Tequila is a mezcal made only from
the blue agave plant in the region around Tequila, Jalisco,
spirits labeled "Mezcal" are often made using other agave plants.

I know alcohol is a diuretic, but other types of booze don't give me the urge to go as quickly as wine does.

45. Depends on the wine
Certain Red wines - mainly California wines that tend to be mass produced (not necessarily cheap - but just produced widely enough they you can find them in any east coast liquor store) will make my head turn extremely bright red flush and I feel a bit hot. So as a whole I just avoid all California wines (although I've had a few boutique wines that I had no problems).

I don't have any problems with whites.

Usually if I'm buying Red wine, it's either from Australia, South Africa, Argentina or Chile.

I knew a woman who ran a local winery, she said it's the nitrates in the soil that probably are causing the reaction and since the soil varies around the world, that's probably why some regions affect me more than others
