Had a bunny visitor this morning. Am trying to identify the breed.
This guy showed up this morning at our garage and he got in our back yard and hung out all day. He is tame and comes right up to you. I say he we do not know the sex. He did let my wife pick him up and was very calm about it. We caught him and put him in a cage so that we can see if we can find out if someone is missing him. I raised rabbits in High school and can not identify what breed it might be. Someone might see if they can identify him. Please.

1. To me he looks like the wild ones I see in the yard.
He could also just be a random mixed breed rabbit. Most of the rabbits in pet shops aren't purebred. Mine were sold to me as dwarfs. One grew up to be a dwarf and the other one is a 7.5lb rabbit that doesn't really fit into any category.

2. When I first saw it I thought it was a cottontail.
But he has way to much red in his fur. And his belly has red on it. Plus he is a lot larger than a cottontail. He may be a cross between a domestic and a wild one. But I have seen his coloring at rabbit shows before and can not remember the name of them.

5. Have that site, and could not really match it from the pics.
I was a member of that group for years in the 80's

10. That's a very cute rabbit.
If you don't find out where he's from then I hope you take good care of him. If he's friendly and takes to your company then it would be very cool of you to take him in. He might be an abandoned rabbit who used to be a pet.

15. It is possible.
We are going to keep him for around three weeks or so, and put an ad in the papers. If we have not heard from anyone by then, I was going to give him to my parents, my mom was really excited about having a rabbit again, and she wants to use his droppings in her compost piles.

12. American Cinnamon
Not a show quality rabbit, but do notice the black on the tips of your bunny's ears

Actually, your juinor looks more like most of the cinnamons that I've seen. I used to have a doe that was a great breeder, and got very tame. One of the best does I ever kept.

17. With that pic I would say you are right.
I Kind of thought it might be but all the pics I found last night were a lot darker or lighter than this one. His back in has a nice confirmation though, to bad his fur is not of right marking. He is very friendly and might make a good breeder.

22. I'm pretty sure -- or just a mutt
I used to cross breed my Cin with New Zelands. Bigger bunnys that way, so they get to a nice fryer size a little sooner.

asking if anyone lost a rabbit? Are you putting an ad in the paper asking of anyone lost a rabbit

Whatever, he's a cutie. There's a rabbit (wild) who makes his hme in my potentilla shrubs.

18. We are putting an ad in the papers
and we will post a pic and lost sign at petsmart. Also going to canvas the neighborhoods around us to see if anyone has lost a bunny.

20. I swear that looks like..
an eastern Cottontail. I rehabed one once who was unreleaseable and he lived with me for years, very sweet and friendly. But there are some domestic breeds that have the coloring of a cottontail -- I have a Flemish that looks just like a really big cottontail.

I'm not sure where you live, but be careful about turning it over to animal control -- many wil put down such animals if they are not adopted within a certain time frame (usually two weeks).

If you are near Texas and can't find the owner, lemme know -- my sister is a rabbit rehaber and has a sanctuary for homless buns.

21. I am not taking it to animal control.
If I can not find the owner, I am taking it to my mother. Who would like another rabbit. She misses my Rabbit Dexter. He was her buddy.

24. When we found a bunny (probably dumped) I was told
that some of them turn into snake food :scared: if you put them up for adoption. Needless to say, "Munchy" has lived in luxury with us for awhile now.

23. I think it looks an awful lot like a silver..
Edited on Fri Sep-22-06 03:27 PM by youthere

We raise several varieties ourselves, but that one is a toughy. If it's very young, it could very well be a Flemish. It may be a crossbreed in which case you may never know!
