Murderer Tells Victims' Families To "Get Over It"
Edited on Thu Sep-21-06 11:35 AM by newyawker99
<snip>

Ulysses Handy III walked into court smirking Wednesday morning, and remained smug as he proclaimed himself “guilty as charged” of three aggravated first-degree murder and two assaults.

He smiled. He laughed as victim’s families said they hoped he’d be killed in prison. He told the families, “Pain is part of life. Deal with it, get over it.”

Handy, 24, took advantage of a plea deal Wednesday that let him escape a potential death sentence. Prosecutor Gerry Horne said he wouldn’t seek Handy’s death if he admitted killing Darren Christian, Daniel Varo and Lindy Cochran in a Feb. 7 robbery in a central Tacoma bungalow.

That left only one sentence Pierce County Superior Court Judge Frank Cuthbertson could give Handy – life in prison without any possibility of release.

Handy told Cuthbertson that he wasn’t asking for any sympathy anyway, because he didn’t have any himself.

“I feel there’s two types of people in this world – us and them, predators and prey,” Handy said. “I’m damn sure not prey.”

1. apparently never read
"How to Win Friends and Influence People"

Yeah, he's an ass, but if you spend any energy hating him, all that he works for wins.

2. Anger is a type of mourning.
I know you didn't mean it this way, but it seems like you're saying exactly what the killer said.

It happened, get over it.

If hate exists, it's unhealthy to suppress it. I hope the family gives themselves permission to deal with whatever feelings they experience. Otherwise, any peaceful appearances are just allowing hate to fester.

4. No, that's not what I'm saying
Anger is definitely part of the mourning process.

Hate is not the same as anger, not in my opinion, anyway.

The family should mourn and they should be angry.

But if they turn to hate, they will have the same mentality as the man who did them wrong.

7. I'd hate that mother fucker
and not think twice about doing it.

Doesn't mean I'd hate everything in life - just the evil piece of shit who killed my loved ones.

Wow. I have no words.

This guy is not human.

If I lived in a death penalty state, I could easily take the job pulling the switch on this guy. Wouldn't bother me a bit.

17. My Space is creepy
For the life of me I don't know why parents let their kids go there. It's a haven for sick, twisted creeps who get easy access to innocent folks.

Parents warn their kids about strangers on the street, yet them go to a creepy website?

15. This Ulysses Handy III seems nothing at all like his brother Jack
But sometimes some of the things Jack Handy says seems an awful lot like he came from a troubled family

19. I think you're right!
:bluebox:If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

:bluebox:One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. "Oh, no," I said, "Disneyland burned down." He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.

:bluebox:Whenever I see an old lady slip and fall on a wet sidewalk, my first instinct is to laugh. But then I think, what if I was an ant, and she fell on me. Then it wouldn't seem quite so funny.

:bluebox:I think a good gift for the President would be a chocolate revolver. and since he is so busy, you'd probably have to run up to him real quick and give it to him.

:bluebox:As I bit into the nectarine, it had a crisp juiciness about it that was very pleasurable - until I realized it wasn't a nectarine at all, but A HUMAN HEAD!!

:bluebox:If you're in a war, instead of throwing a hand grenade at the enemy, throw one of those small pumpkins. Maybe it'll make everyone think how stupid war is, and while they are thinking, you can throw a real grenade at them.

:bluebox:Once while walking through the mall a guy came up to me and said "Hey, hows it going?". So I grabbed his arm and twisted it up behind his head and said "Now whose asking the questions?"

:bluebox:If I could be a bird, I'd be a Flying Purple People Eater because then people would sing about me and I could fly down and eat them because I hate that song.

22. many of those types of folks are so hardened by their own
experiences that they have no empathy for anyone else. It's sad and horrifying. Maybe sitting in jail for the next 70 years will make him not so cocky.

I fear that there are many people out there who are this type of sociopath - seeing life as predators and prey. It's really disheartening.

25. there is an arrogance ..
I remember (too well) when my best friend's daughter was murdered. It took a few years to nail the guy who did it. (Jenny was 18) When we went to trial, he sat there staring coldly at her parents, smirking from time to time, sure he'd get off. That face haunts us today. He was found guilty, sentenced to life in jail which in Ontario Canada means 25 years. He appealed his sentence, too much circumstantial evidence they said. They did more investigation and sent away some samples for DNA profiling. He got scared and settled for a plea bargain instead. His conviction was reduced to manslaughter and I can't remember how much time he is to serve. ... I got off track here, but what I wanted to say is that when there is no conscience involved arrogance takes over.
